    3. Hi All, I am looking for the baptism of Felix James WHITE sometime about 1807-11 in Nottinghamshire. What little I know is as follows: In 1841 he is aged 30+, a hairdresser, born in Nottinghamshire living with his wife, Caroline [nee AUCKLAND/OAKLAND] and daughter Isabella [Isabella Goodman WHITE] The Goodman name recurs frequently in later generations, but I don't know it's source. He probably died in 1844 [James WHITE 3Q 1844 Radford registration district volume 15 page 412] There is a death in the GRO indexes of another Felix James WHITE in Radford RD, but this is his son who died in November 1839 aged 7 months. The certificate said that he was the son of Felix James WHITE, a hair dresser of Pierrepont Street in Sneinton, Nottingham. In White's Directory of Nottingham 1832, there is a J. WHITE jnr, hairdresser in Pierrepont Street and a James WHITE snr combmaker also in Pierrepont Street. Could this be father and son? And if so, did he add the Felix part of his name himself? In 1851 his widow, Caroline (nee AUCKLAND/OAKLAND), is living with her mother-in-law, Ann WHITE, aged 66 from Grantham Lincolnshire So Felix/James' mother is Ann! And his father may be James Has anyone trod this path before and knows more about Felix? If not, can anyone give me some ideas on how to proceed. 3. Rosemary, It's tricky, isn't it? We don't know if we're looking for Felix White or James White? Could I suggest you look for his marriage and see what name he married under. You may already have that, but you didn't post it. You might also look at christenings of any children and see what it has for father's name. Quite often I've seen sons named after their father but know by a different given name to distinguish between the two. Alternatively, some countries might use James Snr and James Jnr, while other might use James I and James II. You might also look for his parent's marriage. I'm wondering if he may not have been born in Lincolnshire. Peter
