Aileen, I couldn't find any SWANE or SWAIN in IGI batches for North Muskham and there was no record for a Jane SWANE / SWAIN on Family Search born 1700 - 1740 in Nottingham. What is the source of your data? You don't just pick a name, date and location out of the air without some other references or clues. Peter
Hello to the list Iam trying to find parents and family of Jane Swain/Swane Birth 1719 in North Muskham, Nottinghamshire Many thanks in advance Aileen
Others seem to be looking as well when you google him. One website (http://www.robinhood.info/robinhood/Forest_Survival.htm) found via another one (http://www.bestwood-country-park.co.uk/bcp/community/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=11 2 ) pointed to an email address for the author armor1@ntlworld.com but it's 2009 so may not work. I also found a reference he seems to have written for someone on which he gives a phone number which is Tel 0 1 15 9679926 but again I have no idea how old it might be. Hi, I am looking for information on Samuel Davis. I have his marriage on 25 June 1787 to Hannah Jones at Saint Nicholas, Nottingham. If anyone can help find his baptism I would be most grateful. Best wishes Jackie

Mistake, the 1841 census I have entered is the 1851 Sorry Doreen ----- No virus found in this message. Checked by AVG - www.avg.com Version: 2014.0.4158 / Virus Database: 3614/6743 - Release Date: 10/11/13
Doreen, I'm not sure of your concern. It looks pretty convincing to me. While you've typed 1841 instead of 1851, it looks like Joseph was simply missed off 1851 census or was away with relatives and perhaps recorded under a different surname. But he's back with the family at the same address in 1861. You say he's a grand uncle. So if you're happy to accept this as the family of your grandparent, there can be no question of doubt. The only query is his whereabouts in 1851. You could look for relatives like aunts, uncles or grandparents or you might like to see if Find My Past has a better transcription. But if he's been missed or the enumerator got it wrong. he's never to be found. Peter
Can anyone give me advice on the following please? I want to add Joseph and Matilda to my genealogy but, there is always a but isn't there! Here goes: Joseph SKIDMORE married Matilda HINDS 19 July 1864 St Mary Nottingham. I have all but their occupations on the marriage details. I was to get a photocopy but just realised I didn't. I have included the marriage details and census' below so I don't get you all muddled! Hi Doreen I had a cast around for your missing Joseph in 1851 but found no sign using the normal methods It is possible he was missed off the transcription by the enumerator, or was enumerated under another name with a relative, or perhaps in some institution somewhere (I favour the first option) As to Matilda in 1861 How about 1861 England Census about Matilda Hind Name: Matilda Hind Age: 13 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1848 Relation: Daughter Father's Name: John Hind Mother's Name: Matilda Hind Gender: Female Where born: Nottinghamshire, England Civil Parish: St Nicholas Town: Nottingham County/Island: Nottinghamshire Country: England Registration District: Nottingham Sub-registration District: Castle ED, institution, or vessel: 11e Neighbors: View others on page Household Schedule Number: 132 Piece: 2467 Folio: 89 Page Number: 26 Household Members: Name Age John Hind 34 Matilda Hind 36 Matilda Hind 13 Ann Mariott 22 Source Citation: Class: RG 9; Piece: 2467; Folio: 89; Page: 26; GSU roll: 542975. Hi Marcia I may be wrong but I thought this PERSI database was 100% US data ? Thank you Nivard, Well it would be a dull world if were were all the same! I no longer have to "go and find an Alt code" because the list is printed and stuck on the side of my hard drive. I was not particularly expecting you to reply but appreciate that you did. I hope the wedding went well. We have had great fun at our children's weddings. All our 3 daughters had D-I-Y weddings as they were all very keen not to waste money - and we all joined in according to our particular skills (Cost <£300 for EVERYTHING for the first in Bury, Lancs in 2002, and about €1000 euros for the last in Huelva, Spain in 2006) . Our son's wedding was more classic in that it was predominantly "out-sourced" and while modest by national standards was hugely more costly than the others. (They are about to have their 2nd child next month) We enjoyed them all notwithstanding! I hope you and your family all had a wonderful time, and send our best wishes to your daughter and new son-in-law. Hi Jean Thank you and yes indeed, a 100% percent perfect day, just as my daughter wished for, including perfect sunny weather and a beautiful sunset over the sea to finish it off, as though made to order She did the vast majority of the organisation, made all the table decorations, decorated the cake etc It was a small affair compared to some but was the nicest I have ever been to (granted I am slightly biased :-) It was a marvellous show of what can be done without taking out a second mortgage Every penny was saved up before the event, I couldn't be prouder of her and her new hubby Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 08/10/2013 09:09, Jean WOOD wrote: > Thank you Nivard, > > Well it would be a dull world if were were all the same! > > I no longer have to "go and find an Alt code" because the list is printed and stuck on the side of my hard drive. > > I was not particularly expecting you to reply but appreciate that you did. > > I hope the wedding went well. The reason for posting the original url, is that there are *other* facilities, not immediately apparent when you go direct to the directories page It would be a pity to miss some very useful information Its one problem with bookmarking a page which bypasses changes and additions to the overall data available from the home page of a site Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 08/10/2013 09:06, Meg Galley-Taylor wrote: > The actual URL seems to be > http://cdm16445.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/landingpage/collection/p16445coll4 . > The other one is the redirection page from the old site. > > Meg Galley-Taylor > >>> Hi all >>> >>> Most will know of the historical directories site for trade >>> directories from the Leicester University and what an excellent >>> facility it was >>> >>> They are migrating to a new site, I have only had a brief go on it so >>> far so can't give a proper evaluation >>> >>> They are combining other elements to hopefully make a better more >>> informative site >>> >>> <http://www2.le.ac.uk/library/find/rarebooksandarchives/specialcollect >>> ions/historical-directories>
