Dear list, In 1881, I have a Thomas and Elizabeth CLARKE living at 2 Wing Alley, Goose Gate, St Mary. Thomas - aged 63, occ: chimney sweep (in 1881) Elizabeth - aged 62, no profession (in 1881) Would someone be able to tell me if they were still there in 1891 and 1901? Regards, Vicki
Thank you for that contact re the workhouse. Joseph was 80 when he died and a retired timber carter having always lived and worked in his native Northants so it kind of made sense that he would be poor and in a hospital -i'm guessing his son had a family of his own to keep fed and warm or he may have died at their house. It was very interesting to read the website and see the photos as i am based in Beds. Best wishes Karen
Isn't that where the present day Karen comes from ? Bob.
> > Also Mary's brother John Ellard who was living at 44 Waterford St > Nottingham on his father Joseph John's death certificate in > 1928(died 100 Hucknall Rd) sub district Bulwell > "100 Hucknall Road" was used on certificates for the Nottingham Workhouse at Bagthorpe (now part of the City Hospital) - although, by 1928 it was not as bad as the classic view of the Victorian Workhouse, simply a hospital for poorer folk. Its records are at Notts Archives. See http://www.workhouses.org.uk/index.html?Nottingham/Nottingham.shtml for some excellent pictures David Hallam david@beeston-notts.co.uk www.beeston-notts.co.uk

She married John Nuttall, born [1786], died Jun qtr 1866 in Basford RD, Nottinghamshire, England. Children: 2. Sarah Nuttall, born [1817], arrived Dec 1839 on Westminster, died 1891 in Kew, Victoria, Australia. She married Sep qtr 1837 in Basford RD, Nottinghamshire, England, Thomas Ragg, born [1816] in Nottinghamshire, England, arrived Dec 1839 on Westminster, died 1874 in Victoria, Australia. I have just purchased the Nottinghamshire Parish Records Version 3, I am wondering if further information is available from the original records or if what I have from the CD is all I get, especially the marriages and deaths. Thanks Lorraine Clarke Perth Western Australia
Hi again Gordon I forgot to say that places of birth are pretty rare on baptisms, the best you can usually hope for is a local address of the parents I would suggest that it would be likely if a child were born in Ireland they would baptise them there before coming to England Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) > Does anyone have access to the Parish Registers for Balderton, Newark, > Notts > Looking for a Baptism for a Daniel PADGETT circa 1806-1808, want his > parents > and, if stated, were he was born ? Ireland ? > He eloped with a Sara(h) WHITE, dau. of Robert WHITE of Newark, and > married > her at Silkstone, near Barnsley in 1832. > Thank you. > Gordon.
Hi Gordon >From the IGI DAINEL MOTEY PADGET Christening: 24 APR 1808 Balderton, Nottingham, England Mother: ELIZ PADGET Family C045341 1750 - 1808 0503473 Film 0933494 Film C045341 1813 - 1834 0504080 Film NONE C045341 1841 - 1848 0504059 Film NONE This should be roughly correct as its an extraction but well worth checking the original page in the Parish Register It implies that Daniel was the illegitimate son of Elizabeth PAGET and perhaps the father is implicated in his second name, perhaps MOTEY Again worth checking the original page Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) PS I have removed the other list address, its usually best to post to one list at a time > New to this list. > > > > Does anyone have access to the Parish Registers for Balderton, Newark, > Notts > ? > > > > Looking for a Baptism for a Daniel PADGETT circa 1806-1808, want his > parents > and, if stated, were he was born ?
