    2. Roy Stockdill
    3. Jenni Your apology is fully accepted with thanks and absolutely no hard feelings, and I trust this matter will now be allowed to die the death it deserves. I thank those who made some kind posts on my behalf and who pointed out that I have helped many people in the past, both on this and other lists. My only proviso has ever been that I expect those asking for help to demonstrate that they have first made every effort to find for themselves the answer to their query, using the resources available. I really don't see how anyone can say that this is unreasonable. As far as I am concerned, the matter is closed and, hopefully, we can all look forward to Christmas and the renewal of our genealogical researches in 2009 with good spirit. My compliments of the season to everyone. -- Roy Stockdill Professional genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." 2. Jack Richards
    3. Dear Maggie (in Wigan) Thank you for your response to my email(s). It is pleasing that you do not require an apology and are capable of asking for one yourelf. Pauline has tendered an apology and she should be applauded for so doing. I appreciate that apology and the swiftness in her offering the same. Depending on whether or not, Hugh the list owner comments, as far as I am concerned that matter should now be closed. As to my comments relating "to the streets of Manchester and crime etc." I have no intention of offering you nor anyone else an apology relating to my comments. It is a separate topic but I quoted the truth from first hand experience and Yes, I do have experience of Wigan and Leigh, as well as most other parts of the City. Why is speaking the truth about my experiences and crime "might be considered offensive". I respectfully suggest if you wish to prolong this discussion, you do so "off list". 3. I don't need an apology, Jack, nor do I want one. I'm also quite capable of asking for one myself. And Manchester isn't all that bad either. To suggest that its streets are full of "the sharp end of crime, hardened criminals" and " all sorts of people from beggars, murderers" might be considered offensive and deserving of an apology, though. 3. Hear Hear Anne! Totally agree - Roy seems to think that unless you have plenty of money, and are also able to travel all over the place you shouldn't 'dabble'. I live in an area called Daintree, in the Far North of Queensland. Our nearest LDS is about 100km away, our nearest librarye about 40km - in fact we get a weekly visit from the mobile library, definitely no computers there. I have had so much help from these lists, most of my antecedants are spread all over the UK, including Wales and Scotland. I now have subscriptions to Find my Past and Ancestry, thanks to my wonderful children, and am happy to help anyone where I can. Such an attitude, especially at this time of year, makes me sad, and I feel sorry for him that he has this attitude. I think his quotation at the end of his post says it all. Regards Jan This reply really annoys me. Roy --We do not all have the money to buy the certificates that we would like to have or join Ancestry or Findmypast . We do not all live within easy travelling distance of the relevant register offices. Most genuine enthusiasts are only too pleased to help anyone who asks for free. I don't think you are one of these. 1. [NTT] Could the GRO indexes be wrong? This is a mystery.

    3. I have a real mind-boggler and It would take a genius to crack it. It isn't easy to follow, but without all the facts it would be difficult to understand.   1818 Sarah Stych b. Wolverhampton parents James and Mary 1838 Sarah Stych Marries Jerimiah Williams 1840 Jerimiah dies (they have no children) 1842 Sarah Marries Richard Grafton (miner) 1846 Daughter Eliza Grafton is born 1848 Son James Grafton is born 1851 Sarah is on the census co-habiting with Joseph Cartwright with her 2 children 1851 June 1/4 son James dies. 1852 Daughter Hannah is born parents Sarah and Richard Grafton 1854 Daughter Hannah is baptised. On freereg, it states mother Sarah deceased father Richard Grafton. 1856 Sarah Grafton marries William Felton...her sister Hannah Illedge is a witness and James Stych father. So she is not dead as it says on FREEREG in 1854. 1858 William Felton is dead  1859 Son Richard Grafton is born parents Sarah and Richard Son born 10/11mths after husband William Felton dies. 1861 Sarah reverts back to her previous husbands name of Grafton and is on the census with daughter Hannah and son Richard and is widowed. 1865 Sarah marries Edward Wootton (caster) Jane Stych sister is a witness, James Stych father. Note she marries as Grafton and not Felton. 1871 Sarah and Edward Wootton are together with wife's son Richard Grafton. living on shakespeare Street.   This is my complication: 1871 son Richard dies 12ys  April 1871 on Shakespear Street Wolverhampton..on the death cert it clearly says the son of Richard Grafton deceased miner. Please note the street. 1871 Mary Wootton dies wife of Edward Wootton (caster) Shakespear Street 19th November 1871. There are no other Wootton's on Shakespear Street and no other Edward Wootton a caster. I am unable to find a death for my Sarah or another marriage for Edward Wootton in that time period. I have rang Wolverhampton and they have checked through the old books that were written at the said time and indexed as part of the GRO, but it clearly says Mary. 1878 Edward Wootton dies widow on Hallets Row, it is believed that he goes to live with his son's or daughter's from his previous marriage who live on Hallets Row.   I have the same occurring with William Felton's wife.....Where do I go from here? She is registered as Hannah, but should say Harriet, but again Wolverhampton have checked the original documents and have been assured it clearly says Hannah.   Help would be much appreciated on this and I have been around this list for nearly a decade and i have faith in all.
