I wonder if the poster who asked for help re the above person has noticed that myself and two other people answered this query within less than three hours of it being posted to the list at 8.30 a.m. EST (Eastern Standard Time), 1.30 p.m. GMT in the UK, on Sunday? I revealed to him who the likely parents of Elizabeth Gertrude Edis were and Pat Williams and Peter Wright both confirmed my information. Peter even posted the exact date of the parents' marriage, but we have so far received no acknowledgement or thanks (a check with the archives confirms) and it is now over 30 hours later. Do people just post queries to the list and then either not bother to check for any response, or do they just take the information and go away? And some listers wonder why I occasionally get irritated with the "look-up culture"! -- Roy Stockdill Professional genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." Hi, I have just rejoined this list after a couple of years. I am interested in the name Richardson, particularly Joseph Richardson who married Sarah Ann Morrell in the parish of St Mary's, Nottingham in 1821. I would be interested to hear from anyone with an interest in this family. I would also like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and happy hunting in 2009 Best Wishes Jackie
Thank you to everyone who helped me re Elzabeth Gertrude Edis. Regards Kenneth

Hi Kenneth I have found what might be them for you and Roy is right about the marriage of Thomas EDIS and Elizabeth OZENBROOK, it appears that if you take a quick look at Elizabeth's birth details of 1863 on LDS it states parents are Elizabeth and Thomas. All fits in, but you can never believe what LDS have written, I have found many mistakes. It also says that Elizabeth married a Frederick. She is down as Gertrude on the census in 1901, but as single? There appears to be a LOWE family living with them and there is a Frederick with them and he has a son called Frederick Lowe aged 5yrs and is widowed. It could well be that Elizabeth married him and became a Lowe and brought Fred up as her own. Does this sound familiar to you? I thank those who made some kind posts on my behalf and who pointed out that I have helped many people in the past, both on this and other lists. My only proviso has ever been that I expect those asking for help to demonstrate that they have first made every effort to find for themselves the answer to their query, using the resources available. I really don't see how anyone can say that this is unreasonable. As far as I am concerned, the matter is closed and, hopefully, we can all look forward to Christmas and the renewal of our genealogical researches in 2009 with good spirit.
