Hi All, It's a while since I've been in touch with the list but I have been going through my books and came across Edwin Ilett Tattersall Jnr "Drawings of Warsop's Old Buildings 1950-1970" I seem to recall there being questions in the past about the location of Warsop Workhouse and thought I would just add following as information for the archives in case anyone searches in the future. Notes beneath one of the drawings of Ross HOWARD's Farm, Carr Lane: "This farm was also owned by HOWARD brothers. in the 19C it was the Warsop Workhouse, and in the 1960's it became Vic's Bargain Store. He used to say it was still the workhouse! It was demolished when the inner ring road was constructed in the 1970's." Happy New Year, Gilly

The version ("While shepherds watched their flocks by night") sung by children of my generation, here in New Zealand: While shepherds washed their socks by night All seated round a tub A bar of Sunlight Soap came down And gave them all a scrub. And my Dad (1907-1989) told me the version of "Hark! the Herald Angels Sing" from his childhood: Hark! The Herald Angels sing Beecham Pills are just the thing. Peace on earth and mercy mild Two for an adult, one for a child Ah, the innocence of youth! Here's to those long-ago days, and to nostalgia. If it's not too "PC" to do so, may I wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas and best wishes for 2009. Pete, It was in St. Anns and ran in a northerly direction from Peas Hill Road to Northville Street, which itself ran parallel with Robin Hood Chase. I was talking to our two boys yesterday about some of the "variations" being discussed here. First of all, I was amazed at how many of them they already knew (aged 10 and 6!!). However, the younger one came up with another version - taught to him by a friend ... Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells Carrot sticks and peas (possibly "Carrots, chips and peas" Every day, twice a day Squash them on your knees Merry Christmas to all - may all your brickwalls come tumbling down next year Heather
Dear Roy Keep up your good work. You have helped many on this list, myself included and people who carry political correctness to absurd degree should be ignored. Thanks Roy Verna
Another version of While Shepherds watched is known to my husband - While Shepherds watched their socks by night All hanging on the line The Angel of the Lord came down And said 'that red pair's mine' Prunella.
Perhaps the original poster is not addicted to this hobby like you and I Roy, so doesn't keep a 24/7 watch out for replies. I'm wondering if someone can help me with baptisms at Langar 1598-1609 to Richard Dubbledaye (or Doubleday) (and Isabel Stanham) who m Langar 3 oct 1598. Also the possible burial of Richard about 1607 or 1608 (I have a possible remarriage of Isabel late in 1608). Also, the baptism of any Daune (or Dawne) for the same period. My difficulty is that the LDS have only the BT's starting in 1609, and this period is not on the Notts FHS CD. The PR's are shown as available at the Notts Archives and the SOG, but I live in Australia. Thanks in advance Brian Taylor
Hi all, closing down for christmas, MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR. terry.
Well, here we go again!.....Can I just say that I have bit my tongue, not only on this list which I have been a member for 10 years, but on other lists too. Whilst I can agree with most of Roy's comments, surely this is not the place to post them. It must put new people off, who have recently joined. Please Roy, can I ask you kindly to make your comments off list. It's like this in my case, I will help anyone on the list If I have the time and resources, this is a great list to be on, but If I don't get thanked then I don't help again. Sometimes we have to think about what we post and this sort of thing is clearly off topic even though I might agree with some of what you say.
