    3. Good Morning from Canada, We very much appreciate all the wonderful help which we have received on this quest . We now find Peachey Street and were thinking it may well be Cobden Hall, that would be the note in our new treasure of a booklet that was passed down to us. If I'm reading Google right. Cobden Hall was a " Mason Hall ". which Bill's Dad we know was a Mason. I will look into it all more. Thank you all so kindly Pat, Pete, David and Brian. We very much appreciate the sites you have shared with us also. 3. May I suggest that you also try www.findmypast.com ? . It is the official GRO site for records. I started with a per item membership, but very quickly upgraded to annual membership. I could then trawl the records without extra fees. If you want to look up just a few things then the brief, itemised starter works well. Frequently I have found a considerable amount of information just by using this. freeBMD is good, but there are gaps. I find that switching between that, Ancestry and findmypast I can get quite a long way They each work differently. You might be able to find many of those people in all BMD, but I agree, you need the marriage cert to start. Mothers' maiden names are given from 1911 (or 1912) onward for example Jean > Message du 03/01/09 14:06 > De : "P WILLIAMS" > A : "jan rockett" > Copie à : "nottsgen" > Objet : Re: [NTT] Harris family > > Hi Jan I'm afraid you need the marriage certificate to determine there ages and their father's' name and occupations. It's important, because without it you might go down the wrong tree so to speak. Once you have that you can determine their approximate date of births, then look on FREEBMD for a match, it's not easy when you search in what i call the grey area between 1901 to 1911 so it's important to get it right. 3. For clarification purposes, I believe: Mother's maiden name appeared in the indexes from the September quarter of 1911 Spouse's surname from March quarter of 1912 age at death from June quarter 1866 date of birth put into the death indexes from 1969. I didn't know that FMP (find my past) was the official GRO site, as far as I know they and others are merely licensed to provide images online. The GRO "official" partners have fiche copies of all the indexes, there are complete and up to date sets in several places: TNA Kew Westminster Archives Greater Manchester County Record Office Birmingham Central Library Bridgend Reference and Information Library Plymouth Central Library this provides a greater accessibility over the country than the old FRC-St Catherine's House-Somerset House days. Libraries and other local/county record offices were able to buy sets for events up to about the mid-1940s I think. All in all there are several sources of information. 3. Hi Jean You say "It is the official GRO site for records" Not sure why you think that, like several other sites they have paid for the right to use the GRO index on their site but its nothing official, they have other partnerships with the National Archives for some other types of records as have other suppliers such as Ancestry Images of the GRO index can be viewed via freebmd homepage up to and including 1935, its slow but fine for occasional use If you are going to subscribe to a GRO index supplier I would look around as there are several suppliers and depending upon your needs you may find a much cheaper option more suitable to your particular needs (some offer different search options which may be worth considering) Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) > May I suggest that you also try www.findmypast.com ? . Their names are Walter Harris who married Florence May Reed (daughter of Janny Reed) in the Mansfield Registration District. They married in 1922 and had Arthur E. in 1923 and Barbara M in 1924. This is as far as we have got up to now as it is a common surname and a blanket search has thrown up so many variable I have had to ask on here. I hope someone can point me in the right direction. 2. Pat and Bill
    3. Hello List, Could I please ask for your assistance in finding what Institute would be on Peachy Street in the early 1900s please. We have what we think is a phone number 391011 Peachy Street ( or could be a street address 391D11 Peachy Street ). Its possible it was a Institute for the blind or a Institute Bill's Dad may have attended ?. Your help and guidance would be very much appreciated. Cheers for now, Pat and Bill
