Dear List I am looking into the death of my 3 X Great Grandfather, George Davison. He died 11th December 1882 in "Her Majesties' Prison Nottingham USD". His cause of death is listed as "Heart disease, death being accelerated by grief at the deceased being made a prisoner for non-payment of a debt". There was an inquest held 12th December 1882. How do I go about finding out more about his court case and inquest? I googled "Nottingham Prisons". I could only find one that opened in 1890. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hi Carol, from Notts Baptism Cd there is the following Ann Thomas GENNEVER Rebecca 1814_05_01 East Leake F W K Marriage has a Thomas GINNEVER Rebecca MARSHALL 1810_05_13 Basford St Leodegarius I assume you refer to Ann's mother as being Rebecca and father Thomas Why do you think the marriage in 1835 to be incorrect? If Ann's sister (Marie) died 1856, that would equate to Ann dying in c1858, which is 23 years after marriage. Kind regards, Lynne. Hi Graham Have you tried the names on freebmd? Freebmd is fairly well covered to 1915 and quite well to 1920 (stats are on the home page) It may at least narrow the possibilities If they are not yet transcribed you can check the images of the GRO index yourself via freebmd homepage I do not know of a marriage index post 1900 for Notts Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) > Hi List > Been away for a while but hoping someone can help me. > I'm looking for 3 Johnson marriages. > William b c1885 married a Nellie > Arthur b c1887 married a Martha > George b c1893 married a Lillian > They were all born in Nottingham and in 1901 lived in Bulwell. > During the 1920's I believe they all at some stage (not together) > emigrated > to America. > What i would like is any information on their marriages especially the > brides surnames. > TIA > Graham

I may be going down the wrong line and am hoping that someone will be going to the records office and can look up the marriage of Ann GINEVER (GENEVER) to Richard ALLEN 26 Sept 1835, St. Mary's Nottingham in hopes of getting the name of Ann's parents. Her father should be Thomas, a FWK A letter from her mother, Rebecca, to another daughter in the US in 1864 says Ann died "two years after Marie", another sister who had died in 1856. If this is so, I have the wrong Ann GINEVER married to Richard ALLEN and subsequently to two other husbands. Thanks for any help, Carol Haycock in Denver .
Dear Margaret, I have tried, but it is not straightforward. I have found Arthur Cecil Hoare registered in the Dec qu 1892 Wandsworth, but then he seems to turn his name around. There is a death recorded Chippenham 23 Aug aged 92, where it refers to his day of birth as being 6 March 1892 (Registration has always in UK been SUPPOSED to be done within 6 weeks=42 days! but often more observed in the breach than the observance.) There is a London Times obit of 25 Aug 1984 of Cecil Arthur Dr Hoare naming his wife as Maria. This could well be very useful I then tried to find the marriage, BUT there are several Arthur C Hoares, marriages in 1914 wife Leggatt at Greenwich 1916 Jackson Walsall 1923 Pointin St Georges Hanover Sq (London) 1924 Allen Hampstead And an Arthur CD marries a Pacy in Kensington in 1921. Finally there is mention of a journey from Hanko (Finland) to Southampton in 1920 mentioning Copenhagen, presumably a stopping point. Have you any idea what his wife’s name might have been? There are other voyage possibilities too some very long distance, which might or might not have been him…might she have been foreign? Good luck! I hope this helps.
