    1. [NTT] "William MASON of Newark m. 1802 Settlement Papers etc."
    2. Hello,  This is my first message to the NOTTSGEN mailing list. I hope someone may be able to help me.  My 4 x great grandfather William MASON married Arabella PILSWORTH at Newark St . Maryâs Church on 4^th February 1802, by licence. I have a copy of the licence which states that William was aged 23 and Arabella 21, both being âof this parishâ  Their children were as follows:-  -        John MASON was baptised at Welby, Lincolnshire, April 1804 -        Thomas MASON was baptised at Welby, Lincolnshire in August 1806. -        Robert Pilsworth and William MASON were baptised in Newark in August 1808 -        Elizabeth MASON was baptised at Welby, Lincs. in November 1810.  William snr. was buried at Welby, Lincs. in January 1811. (The following year Arabella remarried in Lincolnshire and appears to have spent the rest of her life there).  Although a Lincolnshire family, the PILSWORTHs had been living in Newark since at least 1794. In the case of William MASON, however, I have no trace of him prior to his marriage in 1802.  My requests for help are as follows:-  Can anyone tell me if settlement certificates or examinations exist for Newark? If they do, are published indexes available for purchase or online? Is anyone able to check if William MASON appears amongst them (either before his marriage in 1802 or on his apparent return to Newark around 1808)?  Can anyone come up with a possible birth for William MASON in about 1778-9 who married Arabella PILSWORTH in 1802? (I have checked the FreeREG and Familysearch webpages but can find no likely candidates either in Nottinghamshire or Lincolnshire.)  Does anyone know of any sources such as land tax records or other records which exist for Newark between about 1795 and 1810 and which might include William MASON?  Iâd appreciate any help anyone can offer with William MASON, especially since I am descended from him on two sides of my family.  Thanks for taking the time to read this.  Best wishes, Mark in Barcelona [1]"Hoy puede ser un dÃa especial / RegÃstrate en Meetic y conoce a la persona que más te guste ¡ Tienes 3 dÃas gratis!" 3. Mark, I am from Canada..but was in Newark four summers ago....The Newark Library, fairly small library with a Section of old historical books of the town. They have quite a few original books with records of years of the Burgess Rolls, Electoral Roles, Land Tax Assessments..unfortunately not online though...I went through a couple dozen books from the years early 1800s through to 1840s of so. I have a transcript of an 1811 Census done at Newark...only Mason I saw was a "Widow Mason" living on Water Lane as head of a family of 5 - 1 male and 4 females. Original Census is at the Nottinghamshire Archives. There are two Pilsworth families... William Pilsworth, 1 family cheifly employed in Agriculture on Millgate, 3 males and 3 females total; and A Pilsworth, 1 family chiefly employed in Agriculture on Stevenson Row, 2 males and 3 females. Hope that helps. 3. Thanks, Trish. They are all "fam." Still hunting some strays, though. I suspect they may have wandered off from the traditional church patterns. Verbal commentary among the family has suggested they may be buried beyond the official consecrated boundaries of Nottingham General Cemetary. /g 2009/5/4 <nottsgen-request@rootsweb.com> > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. 3. John and all. (John - I think we had some contact in my FreeBMD transcribing days). I assume that the nine are Sarah, Mary, Samuel, William, John, Joseph, Samuel, Hannah and Hannah. I have not been pursuing this line for some years so have had to refer to my files. I note that I was in contact in 2001 with Lawrence Annable in Canada. He said that he had found a patron submitted baptism record for Sarah STAFFORD in the IGI as the illegitimate child of Nancy STAFFORD father not specified at Arnold on 27 Apr 1834; he assumed this was the child recorded in the 1841 and 1851 censuses as Sarah WELLS, daughter of William and Ann WELLS. 3. Morning all Have looked on the net and have been to the library but not yet found a reference to this chap and his shop. Got this initially Wright's Directory of Leicestershire, 1887-1888 Wigley, James B. 4 East gates and Goose gate, Nottingham and wondered if anyone had any old photo's of Hockley as the ones I have found are of the top end. The shop would have been towards the bottom end within the place of where the Red Hot Buffet Shack is now. Many thanks Elaine
