Jeanette they certainly exist - Notts Archives list baptisms for Greasley 1600 - 1900 in their "Nottinghamshire Parish & Denominational Registers" but I doubt that you will find more than transcripts of these on line. Notts FHS on their baptisms CD appear to have transcribed 1773 - 1901 and familysearch.org list holdings for BT's from 1609-1830 I hope that this helps Best Wishes John Mellors ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeanette Brentnall" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, January 29, 2012 4:42 AM Subject: [NTT] Parish registers for Nottingham 1600-1700s (baptisms) > Try as I have, I cannot find a website where I can view parish registers > showing baptisms in Nottinghamshire, probably St. Mary's Church, Greasly, > for the 1600 - 1700s. > Are they not available, or am I searching in all the wrong places? > (I'm looking for CHARLES BRENTNALL, born c. 1700, and his siblings and > parents.) > > Many thanks, > Jeanette Brentnall > Queensland, Australia > > > > > > > > Notts Surname List > > http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~hughw/notts.html > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message

Dear Bill, I am not very good at the English research, but do have Frances/Francis in my names. I have found when it is spelled Frances with an "es" it's a girl. Francis with an "is" is a boy. You have spelled it both ways, so do you know if it is a male or female for sure? Hi Bob and Everyone, Further to my travails about running the General Cemetery Viewer under WIN 7, I discovered that if I uninstalled the broken version and reinstalled, then set compatibility to XP before running it, it works fine. Hi Everyone, In relation to running a dual boot computer as Brian refers to below, I had XP installed and added WIN 7, because I needed to retain XP to run a plotter for which there are no drivers for Win 7 Both work fine, You just select which XP or Win7 when you start your computer (default is Win 7). There are instructions available on the Internet on how to do the installation. I probably have them if you can't find them on the Internet. All, I have found a person on the 1901 census who gives his place of birth as Turnerwood, Yorkshire. Google Earth locates it in the middle of nowhere between Thorpe Salvin and Worksop. Its not far from Worksop and as such is probably included in the Worksop Registration District. Cany anyone confirm this? I'll be interested if you do find a solution for this problem. Since buying a computer with Window 7 OS I have not been able to run several programs & CD's give me errors. My Family Tree Maker 2007 was one that I had to update, also two older versions of my photo editing programs. Dear Listers, I am trying to determine the connection with my ancestor William Toplis. I have the following: William Topleys married Sarah Hopewell on 4 Jul 1786 at St. Nicolas Church Nottinghamshire. I believe William Topleys was William Toplis. If anyone has copies of BT or Parish Register or CD, could you please check for any information i.e. did he live in Wilford or Nottingham and was an occupation indicated. Death record for William Toplis in Wilford, Nottingham on 3 June 1804. Also, any additional information such as age or occupation. Many thanks for your assistance. Marlynn Johnson USA
Thank you everyone who replied to me.Yes I can see it now , it is Dalrymple. So easy for you cleaver ones who cant even see the writing, well done.regards.Maggie.
I have a photo of a large marble plaque that was relocated from the ruins of South Wheatley church to North Wheatley. The plaque is dedicated to St Helen who was the patron saint of the church at South Wheatley. It's quite large and I assume would have been quite expensive. It's nearly 30 lines of Latin text. I'd hate to be paying by the letter. It seems to date from about 1671. It mentions Johannes Booth, Catherina Holder, Thomas Holder and Agnetis (Holder?). There's also mention of London on 18th day of August (poss 1671) I wonder if anyone from the area has seen the plaque and has a transcription from the Latin text or can help identify the families. Enter these names into FreeBMD and you will find lots of examples - the former spelling being by far the most common. Surname dictionaries say it's a Scottish surname from the former barony of Dalrymple, a place in Ayrshire. Enter it into the IGI at FamilySearch, ticking the exact spelling box, and you will see that this confirms it overwhelmingly as a Scottish name. According to the Oxford Dictionary of Surnames by Hanks and Hodges, the Dalrymple family held the Earldom of Stair in Kyle, Aryshire, and can be traced to one William de Dalrymple in 1429. -- Roy Stockdill Genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."
