My Isaiah NORWOOD was b. circa 1812 in SC to John NORWOOD, JR and his wife Catherine POWELL. He was the son of Captain John NORWOOD, Sr and his wife Martha WARREN of Darlington, SC. John, Sr was a Revolutionary War hero, having fought as an officer beside General Francis Marion (The Swamp Fox) as part of "Marion's Men"...a guerilla-warfare group who terrified and devastated the British troops in SC and the area. Catherine was daughter of John POWELL, also a member of "Marion's Men". John, Jr. and Catherine moved in 1813 +/- to the area around Simpson Co, MS. One of their many children was Isaiah NORWOOD. He married Amanda Eleanor MAGEE, daughter of wealthy planter Robert Robin MAGEE, for whom Magee, MS is named. One of their childen, b. in 1844, was Robert NORWOOD, who was a young Confederate cavalry officer in the Civil War from MS. His second marriage in 1894 was to my GGM JoAnn DUCKWORTH.
