Happy New Year, everyone! As of today we have 123 subscribers to Norwood-L and Norwood-D combined. The Norwood Family Page has received 15,700 visits since its inception in the spring of 1998. Some new Norwood pages have been created for specific lines of the family and there are links to them at TNFP.  If you have found or created a page you would like to have linked to TNFP, please let me know. Pat Crewe of Australia has indexed Marion Norwood Callam's THE NORWOODS III for everyone.  Again, many thanks to her for this wonderful contribution to our research community. Norwood genealogical research seems to be proceeding nicely. This might be a good time to make suggestions for 2001.  What could we do to help each other further?  What needs to be on line now to make our research efforts more fruitful?  On line isn't everything, but it is becoming a good resource for at least some of our research. I have a few items on my list, including a couple of questions for all of you. First, the questions: 1.  The majority of subscribers to this list are on Norwood-L, receiving individual messages as they are posted.  Would you prefer to have the messages prepended with something like [NORWOOD] or [NRWD] to help identify these messages or are you happy with things as they are?  Please let me know at [email protected] (no need to crowd the list with these responses). 2.  Currently, the reply function is set to send replies back to the list by default.  Would you prefer to have replies go to the sender or continue to have them go to the list?  Again, please send your answers to my e-mail address above. Regarding the Norwood Family Page: I am now again entering Jim Dempsey's Francis Norwood descendant database into a TMG program file.  It is slow-going, but I am trying to do a little every day, so that we can have the entire database located at the Norwood Family Page website, which Jim gave me permission to do a long time ago. To those of you who are descendants of Francis Norwood, I have received mail from Mr. Hyatt, who owns the house, a great grandson of Alpheas Hyatt, who was the first non-Norwood to purchase it and the founder of the Oceanographic Institute that became Woods Hole.  I think I may have announced this earlier.  I appended parts of his message to the Francis Norwood house history at TNFP.  The house is now to be protected as a registered historical site; however, Mr. Hyatt has no heirs and the house will probably be sold at some point in the future (something Mr. Hyatt mentioned).  In the back of my mind is the thought that resources could be pooled by interested descendants to purchase and maintain the house in perpetuity as a historical site.  Would someone with more knowledge about establishing foundations and trusts and the like offer thoughts or advice? I want to repeat my offer to have a descendant of William Norwood of Virginia take over that part of the page and build it up.  It is rather sparse right now.  I have some wonderful Leckhampton Court materials to upload from  Beth Yale of Phoenix, AZ, which I have also had for some time, and am just waiting to get my scanning capabilities up to speed.  This really needs to be made available for everyone to enjoy. Kitty Crowley is our best resource for the Norwoods of Maryland, especially the descendants of Captain John Norwood of the Tyringham line, who was sheriff there in the 17th century.  Some of her work is on line.  She was a big help when the Norwood Family Page was just getting started and has made a huge contribution to our research community. I will continue to glean what I find in my websurfing that might be of interest to all of you.  I have been running into a number of Canadian Norwoods in records and recently found several of Irish descent and will be making that data available at the Norwood Family Page site.  Please feel free to suggest additions to the site from your own research.
