Hi! Whew. Well I've been working my little fingers off, but I finally got the web site for "NORWOOD in Nebraska, New Jersey & New York City" updated. It's at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norwood for those that don't already know. I've done a major over-haul of the whole look using a brand new program for me so please let me know if you encounter any problems. I already know of a few more tweaks I'd like to do but I'm tired of looking at this screen so much. I'm probably not seeing the things I should anymore anyway, so I've promised myself a few days off to do something else. Like laundry and vacuuming. :) I've been able to finish what info I had from Nebraska that wasn't available on the old site, by adding what I knew about John Norwood's grandchildren . I hope to start working on the New Jersey info after the J4 holiday vacation but that already looks like it's going to take me quite awhile to put together. Don't look for it too soon. Enjoy! Irene

Celeste, As I recall he purchased the manor from a cousin and died without heirs. The manor passed to another cousin. If you are interested in Col Henry, check out Samuel Pepy's Diary references to him. While not all flattering they shed some light on not only the Col., but the times. Col Henry was a hardcore supporter of the crown during the English civil war and when Charles II was crowned Henry received several advancements. He was either the of the royal colony of Tangiers. He was also present at the Dutch surrender of New Amsterdam (New York) to the British. >From: [email protected] >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: Norwoods in Delaware >Date: Sun, 16 Apr 2000 16:17:29 EDT > >Steve: > >Do you know if Colonel Henry Norwood left any children behind when he >returned to London? > > >Celeste >========= >In a message dated 04/08/2000 8:36:50 PM Mid-Atlantic Daylight Time, >[email protected] writes: > ><< Subj: Re: Norwoods in Delaware > Date: 04/08/2000 8:36:50 PM Mid-Atlantic Daylight Time > From: [email protected] (Steve Norwood) > Reply-to: <A >HREF="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</A> > To: [email protected] > > No knowledge of Nathaniel Norwood or other Norwoods in Delaware. >However, > the Col. I am a black female from the descendant of the norwood family from Fort Worth tx, wanting to know about other norwoods. One of the descendant is Isiah Norwood, who was my grandfarther reared in San Marcus Tx. We have found three families added to the families recently! We are hoping to find more families in the future. Looking for families from San Marcus , Oklahoma, Tx, Virginia, New Orleans.
I found this entry while browsing through "Who was Who 1897-1915" in my local library: NORWOOD Capt John VC late 5th Dragoon Guards b. 8 Sept 1876 Educ Abbey School, Beckenham; Rugby; Oxford. Entered Army 1899. Served S. Africa 1899-1900. Decorated for rescuing a trooper under heavy fire near Ladysmith 30 Oct 1899 d. Sept 1914 (for those of you who don't recognise VC - it's the Victoria Cross, the highest decoration for a member of the services) [He's not one of mine, as far as I know] Best wishes -- Hugh Norwood Beware of Geeks bearing GIFs... http://www.hnorwood.demon.co.uk/index.htm
My books are packed, but Marion Norwood Callam featured Capt. John Norwood in one or the other of her first two books. That's a great find. Thanks, Dick Norwood

Dick, haven't heard from you awhile. Saw some message about you not working on a degree anymore. Did you finish your studies? I working hard at putting my mother's house up for sale as the nursing homes costs have skyrocketed. And trying to get history society's off the ground in KY. Hope to be able to return to Norwoodiana in the near future. jim dempsey

Well, I went through my databases on NORWOOD in NJ and NY and everything I had on Pennsylvania (including The Pennsylvania Genealogical Magazine vol. 1-39, Southeastern PA Birth Index 1680-1800, and Pennsylvania Vital Records 1700s-1800s) and The Maryland Genealogical Society Bulletin vol. 1-38, but couldn't find any of the Norwoods you list here. I don't have anything specifically geared towards Delaware but my Norwoods came from somewhere in this same area so I'll keep an eye out in case I run across something. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Irene http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norwood/
