Hi! I sent for a bunch of Civil War records a few months ago. After receiving several discouraging "No, we were unable to locate the file you requested above" notices, I finally got two hits today. I'm hoping someone here might recognize one or both of these two men enough to tie them to their families. Charles Henry Norwood (served from New Jersey) b. abt 1825 m. (1) Elizabeth Conklin, (2) Laura J. Ward children: John, Esther, Benjamin, Nellie, Charles, Helen, Edna parents: Joseph Norwood & Bridget or Betsy Wright (Any ideas to the parents of Joseph? I working on a hunch that he may be the brother of my 2nd great grandfather.) Richard Norwood (served from New York and Pennsylvania) b. abt 1830 m. Matilda Thompson children: none named (possibly didn't have any as they married the year before the war and he died soon after he returned, having seen his wife only once in between) parents: none named (drats!) (Any idea to this Richard's parents?) Thanks for any help! Irene
Hello Charles, There is a book written by G. Marion Norwood Callam titled "The Norwoods III" which gives extensive lists of Norwoods from the very earliest to the present. I am at the moment compiling an index for this. When it is complete it will be on the Norwood family page. Hope this will help you. Regards, Pat Crewe
Hello fellow researchers! I just joined this list and thought I would submit my NORWOOD listing for your review. A lot of this info I collected early on in my novice rookie stage of research. While I am still a rookie, I do know now that documentation is of utmost importance. That is where I lack in my NORWOODs. Can anyone tell me where I might find some documentation for the earlier NORWOODs? Are there historical references, acurate web sites, library archives, etc., that might provide such info? Any help is appreciated. I hope we have a connection out there! Irene: Two of the DE Norwoods are lineages that I am actively researching: Nathaniel Norwood and Eli Norwood. It is my suspicion that these two men are father and son, but I have not definitively proved that. Nevertheless, Eli Norwood's lineage is well traced. Please keep us posted with your progress. For the areas that I'm researching I usually prepare what I call a "cheat sheet" that contains all the misc info on the surname that I've run across but can't fit into the family. I've had multiple sheets that I periodically update for New York and New Jersey for years. Yesterday I was at the library doing a little research and picked up some info I didn't already have about Norwoods in Delaware. Today I put together a cheat sheet for Delaware and Pennsylvania and thought I'd share it here in case someone knows to what family line this misc info belongs. Hi everyone. I'm sending out a suggestion again after a long interval that we try to index The Norwoods III. I'm looking for volunteers who would be willing to share in this task. If there are a lot of volunteers, we could get this finished in no time and with a minimum of tedium. To spare the list members a mailbox overload, please e-mail me at [email protected] Thanks, Dick Norwood http://www.geocities.com/~rnorwood/tnfpexp.htm
Hi Pat. I'm a Norwood researcher too. Some of us don't live on the East Coast and when you post, would it be possible to identify which state, county or country you reference? It would help. My Norwoods came from N.C. but I don't recognize small town names there. Thanks, Marylee in Texas
Hello listers I am tracing the Norwood Tree from Hertfordshire. I have a fair amount of information but am now stuck: GGGreat Granfather Joseph Norwood came from Buckden BUCKS does anyone know anything about him and his parents, brothers and sisters. I know Joseph moved to Wigginton and had a number of children and have traced some of them but not all. Would be very grateful if anyone can help. Pat Jeffery
Copied all the Norwoods out of the 1900 Soundex, Iowa. Frances Micajah took his family there about 1868, I believe. Found a Chancey Norwood, b N Y. I think I'm going to find out that Albert Norwood, older brother to Francis Micajah, also took his family to Iowa. You never know what you will find.
Dick, Still looking to make that connection for Irene Norwood married to Mayhew Main in Gloucester/Rockport. Could it be that Irene was actually a middle name? Steve

Norwood in the Ancestral Files at the LDS website. He is listed as the son of Jonathan (spelt ...on) and Susanna Curran Norwood. There are two files, the one below, which gives his ancestry, and another, his marriage to Sally Barnes. They were both apparently born in 1810. Ancestral File Frame

I'm sure the database isn't exhaustive, so perhaps he still belongs to the New England family, but maybe the New Jersey and NYC group are his. Let me know how your research proceeds.
