3. I am seeking any information on Irish Norwoods, in particular from Dunmanway in Cork. My great great grandfather Edward NORWOOD was born about 1827 in Dunmanway and came to Australia in the 1850's where he married Mary Jane PAULEY in 1865. His parents were John NORWOOD and Elizabeth McMULLIN. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. [email protected]

There are 606 Norwoods included and I am sure there are nearly as many errors but I like to put the information up for view and hope for folks to come along and correct or add to it. That system seems to work fine for me. You can see everything I have at my Rootsweb World Connect site: <http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=joanbill> Most of my information on that family came from W.C. Bauer Descendancy Charts. Mr Bauer compiled a lot of information on Norwoods and did some research on his own as well. I sort of liked his motto when referring to material he compiled from the inputs of others: "I can't prove a word of it." Nevertheless, he opened many doors and gave us many possibilities to investigate. Anyway, as to your question, Mary Norwood is shown in Mr. Bauers files to be a daughter of William (The Immigrant) Norwood and Lydia Jordan. Hope this helps a little bit. Jackie Norwood Corby >> Hi Jackie, Just quickly (it's good to hear from you), I have a contact with a fellow named Scott Norwood, who grew up in Wellesley, Mass. His father is Ralph Norwood and he believes he is related to the lighthouse family too. Apparently Georgia Norwood married a man named Emerson. Her son Willie wrote a book entitled First Light, but I have not been able to find it on line. I haven't been able to find anything out about the family. Scott says his father was from New Hampshire and he was aware of the large number of Norwoods in Maine--and he included northern NH. There is a Ralph Morse Norwood in Jim Dempsey's database, descended from Joshua III of Mt. Desert. Hope you're well. Thanks for the feedback on both the search engine and the Ralph Norwood link. Based upon the index on Dick's website, I ask that the information for the below-named persons be forwarded to me. Date: 12/01/2000 3:34:29 AM Mid-Atlantic Standard Time From: [email protected] Reply-to: [email protected] To: [email protected] Hi everyone. I've been really encouraged to see all the traffic on the Norwood Family Page from family all over the world. I've been especially interested in recent queries from English Norwoods tracing their families in England. Because of other interests and activities, I haven't been very active in genealogical research for many months, probably more than a year, but recently I received an interesting e-mail from Ariel Hessayon about her proposed entry to the New Dictionary of National Biography of Capt. Robert Norwood, a soldier on the Parliament side in the English Civil War, that reenergized me. Jim Dempsey already studied the case of Robert Norwood because of similarities of his story with that of Francis Norwood of Gloucester, Mass., whose descendants still don't know his origins. I don't know that we ever will, but as time goes by perhaps more will be uncovered to help identify him. But this message is to let you all know that Pat Crewe has produced an index in three parts for Ms. Callam's The Norwoods III. As you all know, this book does not contain an index and is difficult to search for that reason. Pat's indexes solve this problem. I have gone ahead and posted the indexes on the Norwood Family Page. You can find them on the left hand side of the main page just above the buttons for the various areas of the website. You can open them right from the main page. If you don't have the Norwoods III, but would like me to check an indexed item, I will be happy to do so. I hope others with the book might volunteer to do so too. That's all. I hope you are all well and continuing to try to find your Norwood ancestors and relatives. If you have any new discoveries to share, please do, here on our mailing list. If you want to add data or articles to the Norwood Family Page, please let me know. If you can, identify your earliest known ancestor--in the US, your immigrant ancestor. Thanks very much.
