    3. Bill, I haven't seen your name before with the Norwood research. Welcome. I've been researching the family about 40 years. My line comes through William to Edward, to Theophilus. I wish we could find someone to head up a Norwood family DNA project. My Daniel, Langley and Callaway lines have had some good response. My sons could not take part as they carry the Gray name and not the others. 3. Hi, Just wanted to state that the 9th Annual Norwood Reunion will be held in Mount Airy, Maryland on 29 April 2007. The group has grown over the years and last year we had over 75 genealogists and family researchers gather to network and share research. It has grown to include not just the descendants of Capt. John Norwood of Maryland but also other families from the Maryland area. For more information, please contact me. Kitty Crowley

    3. THOMAS FRANKLIN1 NORWOOD was born Jan 18, 1813 in NC, and died Dec 22, 1882 in McMinn Co., TN. He married ELIZABETH ANN WARD Abt. 1836 in NC?. She was born Jun 02, 1817 in NC, and died Mar 13, 1883 in McMinn Co., TN. More About THOMAS NORWOOD and ELIZABETH WARD: Marriage: Abt. 1836, NC? **Supposedly, they were from Banner Elk, NC I have soundly proven that Judge Norwood/Robina Hogg were NOT the parents of Thomas Franklin Norwood. I have the information on their children (along with photos). I would like to discover the parents and siblings of Thomas Franklin Norwood and Elizabeth Ann Ward. If you can help me, I would appreciate it! Thank you! Charlotte __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Lucy Gray ----- Original Message ----- From: Richard Norwood To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, January 02, 2007 8:04 AM Subject: [NORWOOD] A message from the list administrator Happy New Year everyone! I am not a very communicative administrator and our list has very little traffic, but we have held on all these years and if anyone wants to post to our Norwood research community, we are here. Recently, we had news of a painting commissioned to depict Richard Norwood surveying Bermuda, and after looking at the artist's work, I am excited about seeing the new painting. Also, a novel published this year, Chase, by William Allison, tells the story of George Chase, who marries Harriet Norwood, daughter of William and Deborah Winslow Norwood of Camden, Maine. William is a descendant of Joshua Norwood, III, of Mount Desert, Maine. I have begun reading the novel and will try to review it later. I'm only nine chapters into the story. I think Allison has done a great job on chapters 8 & 9. His description is very strong, as is his research of the context for his story. Both of these things were announced on this list in 2006. I hope you will all stay with the list and be available for research questions and continue to receive notices of new and interesting things related to our Norwood surname. I have updated the Norwood Family Page (I know it's been static for some time.), adding information about /Chase /and some notes about Jordanus de Sheppey and King Harold II. I just picked up and am reading /1066, The Year of the Conquest/, by David Howarth, and published in 1981 by Penguin Books. It's a page-turner, small, 200 pages, very nicely written. When you read it, you feel that England before the conquest was a special place indeed, almost idyllic. You can even see the seeds of democracy already planted and rooting, though many centuries will pass before they fully sprout. Another book about Harold that I enjoyed very much is /Harold, The Last Anglo-Saxon King/, by Ian W. Walker, published in 1997 by Sutton Publishing, Ltd. It is very detailed, thorough, and also nicely written with maps, charts, pictures, bibliography, and copious notes. Of course, since it can't be proved that the Norwoods stem from the Godwin family through Harold, these books have to satisfy our interest in a significant juncture in English history, not necessarily our origins. For some reason, although I have come to understand this, Harold still holds a special place in my mind and heart. Well, may you all have a wonderful 2007! ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message Take time to smile. A truer, better friend I never had. My Life; has been made better and sweeter by his, and I shall miss his smiling face, warm handclasp and sympathetic soul. He baptized some of my children and I some of his. We were brothers and friends in deed and in truth. I loved his companionship and shall long for the reunion that shall not be marred by sorrow or seperation. He was a pure, clean man, of shrinking modesty, industIious and faithful as a preacher and his ministry bore fruit. He always built up his work, materially and spiritually. He served on small salaries, and generally his inadequate support was, supplementetl by a crop, the labor of his own hands. He was blessed with a congenial, econonlical and industrious wife, who sylmpathized with his calling, made his home happy and his success possible. At the division of the East Texas Conference in 1866, he adhered to the Trinity, now the North Texas Conferenc:e, and barring a few years in the Northwest Texas Conference, spent his life principally in that Conference. His.appointments, in the main, were as follows: Shelbyville. Jasper, Daingerfeld. Gilmer, Kellyville, Marysville, Denton, Decatur, Dublin, Salado, Dexter and Reinhardt. He was given a superannate relation about thirteen years ago, and moved to Durant, Oklahoma, but served as a supply two or three years and preached to the last,as long as strength would permit. His life was much saddened by the death of his faithful wife two years ago, and he lived much in prayer and meditation after her departure. He had greatly endeared himself to the people of Durant, and his funeral was largely attended by sympathizin friends. Services were conducted by the pastor, Rev J, M, Cantrel, and the former pastor, Rev. G. C. French. Two step-children, Mrs. George Skinner, of Denison and Frank Amold, Esquire, Anson, survive him, and six of his own children, A. L. Norwood, of Chandler, Oklahoma ; T, B, Norwood, of Memphis. Texas; Mrs. W. C. Grounds, of Roseburg, Oregon; Mrs. O. F. Kolb, of Haskell; Miss Nell Norwood of Denison; Miss Burta Norwood, of Durant, Oklahoma. My heart goes out in earnest prayer;for the children and grandchildren, that all may so live as to join their godly parents and constitute an un-preached to the Ser the broken family in heaven. That would have the addresses of those connections in Texas. I'm sorry I "downsized" too soon.
