    3. Hello, Harald Reierson born  1868 in Telemark, Nes in Sauherad, Norway died 1909 in Skien, Norway according to the Norsk 1900 census he worked as a hotel waiter at the Hotel Royal.   In the 1910 census his wife Anna Marie Andersdtr and children did not belong to the state church which may explain why I can not find Harald in a parish death register. He was only 40 years old when he died and I am very curious as to the cause of death. Any information will be appreciated. Thank you Dennis

    3. Vikør is a parish under Kvam? Kvam is a municipality in the county of Hordaland, Norway. The parish of Vikør was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Parts of Strandebarm were merged with Kvam on 1 January 1965. The municipality borders Voss to the north, Vaksdal, Samnanger and Fusa to the west, Granvin to the east and Hardangerfjorden to the south. Important settlements in the municipality include Norheimsund, Øystese, Ålvik, Tørvikbygd, Strandebarm and Mundheim. Norheimsund and Øystese are the largest settlements with 2,087 and 1,626 inhabitants respectively.[2] The largest lakes are Bjølsegrøvvatnet and Holmavatnet. In addition a portion of Hamlagrøvatnet is located in Kvam. Margit in Minnesota http://norwaytoamerica.blogspot.com "If you have questions, just ask!" 3. Bertha Severson Rasmussen was my foster grandmother, having raised my mother, Anna Olava Hia Buckels. I have been unable to find any family history on her. Severson could be Sivertsen(on) in Norway but searches have come up with nothing. Any help will be appreciated. I have an album full of pictures, some tin types, but without names. I would love to find her descendents with whom to share these pictures. Obituary: Bertha Jergina Severson was born in Kvansa, Hardanger, Norway on November 15, 1866, and passed away at her home in Story City, September 10, 1943, at the age of 76 years, 9 months, and 26 days. She came to America in 1893, to Grinnell, Iowa, where she lived until her marriage. In 1899 she was united in marriage to Andrew O Rasmussen, coming to Hamilton county and being married in the Elim Lutheran church by Rev. O. S. Heidahl. Mrs. Rasmussen has lived in and around Randall since her marriage, with the exception of eight years that she has lived in Story City. Besides her husband she is survived by two foster daughters, Anna (Mrs. J. Torvestad) of Gaston, Ore., and Olava (Mrs. Lloyd Buckels) of Jewell. Her parents, two brothers and one sister preceded her in death, besides two grandchildren, Pearl Cathryn Torvestad and Janett Joan Buckels. Mrs. Rasmussen was a kind, loving companion and mother, taking into her home two children who were motherless, and fulfilled the place of Mother and Home. Her home was always open to everyone and especially to the "homeless". Her friendly greeting and nice smile will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. She was a devoted Christian woman, believing deeply in prayer, her prayer mainly for the salvation of souls. Mrs. Rasmussen was a member of the Elim Lutheran Church of Randall for forty years, and since living in Story City she transferred her membership to Bethel Lutheran church, and being an active member of her church, taking part wherever and whenever she could. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, at 1:30 at the residence and at 2 o'clock in the Bethel church. The Revs. A. J. Bringle, G. O. Paulsrud and J. O. Gisselquist spoke, and a duet was sung by Orville Olson and Mrs. Bertle Stensland and also a solo by Rev. G. O. Paulsrud. The pall bearers were: John Okland, John Hougen, A. J. Henryson, John Severaid, J. T. Heggen and Orville Anderson. Interment was made in the Mt Olive cemetery in Randall. Among those from a distance at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Orville Pederson and Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Paron Pederson and Anna Pederson of Grinnell; J. J. 3. Dorothy, I would suggest you join the Illinois Norwegian mail list, as this list is for posting obituaries of people who came from Norway to America as it says on the site. <http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/NOR/NORWEGIAN-OBITUARIES.html> NORWEGIAN-OBITUARIES-L lists2 Topic: A mailing list for the posting of obituaries of Norwegian immigrants that came to America. Obituary lookups are not addressed by the list at this time though this may be added in the future. Margit List Admin On Nov 20, 2006, at 9:08 PM, geemadee wrote: > Margit-- > Thanks for your reply. 3. Margit-- Thanks for your reply. I've not had any luck looking in Cook County, IL norwegian-obituaries@rootsweb so far. All Schonings listed were too early, and none shown after 1950. Do you have a recommended way of looking at obits/deaths after 1950 on the web? Thanks again for your help. Also, I suppose there was a slash through the "o" (Schoning), which could have translated into "Schoening" in English. Any thoughts about that?
