Dear Listers, Several years ago I was «hunting» for a lady whom I knew resided in or near San Diego, CA, but I never found her until she finally showed up in the SSDI! She was almost 100 years old when she died! Now I have a similar case in Northern California, and I wonder if anyone has any suggestions what to do? John N. Urness (1888-1957), emigrant from Luster Co., Norway, died in Dallas, OR leaving a widow Helen who died at San Rafael, CA Mar. 20, 1994. They had two children: * Helen A…… Urness, born in Renville Co., ND June 17, 1922, obtained her marriage license in Berkeley, Alameda Co., CA in Feb. of 1946 (I never could find a marriage date!) and married John Bateson, born in Congleton, Cheshire, England May 17, 1919. He died at San Rafael, CA Sep. 23, 1993. There were four children including one daughter Gail Bateson who used to live in Sweden(!), but who may be back in Cal…(?) I just cannot find Helen or her family to obtain further details about Helen and her marriage!? * Sybil Norma Urness, born in Renville Co., ND Aug. 31, 1923, died May 3, 1991, I believe at Antioch, Contra Costa Co., CA. She married in Minot, ND Apr. 15, 1946 to Donal William Brisling, born in Detroit, MI Aug. 21, 1922. He later remarried twice, but supposedly still lives at Antioch, CA(?). Donal and Sybil had four children. I just cannot find Donal or his family to obtain further details about him and Sybil!? She was 80. Mrs. Brislain was born Jan. 22, 1922, in Helena, Mont. Her maiden name was Nichols. She was a member of World Affairs Council, Oregon Historical Society and Portland Beautification Association. She was a volunteer and board member of the Albertina Kerr Center in Portland and a past board member of Maryhill Art Museum in Goldendale. Mrs. Brislain enjoyed gardening, golfing, traveling, boating and bird watching. She was a pilot and was named Woman of the Year in The Dalles, Ore., in 1968. Survivors include her husband, Donal W., at home; one daughter, Carolyn Clark of Seguin, Texas; one son, Brian Tom of Brightwood, Wash.; and two grandchildren.
