What does it mean to adopt a list? You will need to make sure your email is registered and verified. You can find instructions on how to do that here: https://mailinglists.rootsweb.com/lists/setupadmin Once you are made the admin, you will receive emails asking you to approve messages and sometimes subscriptions. Once a month or so you should post something interesting to the list to try and encourage conversation -- even if it is something simple like a roll call. The time required is likely a few hours a month. If you are interested in being the administrator of this list, please send an email to rwmailinglists@ancestry.com with the list name in it and we will send you instructions. It doesn't take much time at all to maintain a list and getting reacquainted with your lists members. And it might just open some new genealogy doors for you.
