Dear Listers! Some of these old professions given in census records and city directories give me a reason to ask what these people really did. One person, Patrick H. Griffin (1855-1921), is listed in the 1900 and 1910 censuses as well as in numerous Minneapolis, MN city directories as being an «expressman». Only by 1920 he was working for «the city health office»! Can someone please tell me what this gentleman really did for a living? Thanks a million in advance for your great assistance in this matter! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane

Dear Don and other Listers! Thank you very much for your quick reply to my inquiry about expressman. As I study Wikipedia, I believe I would translate this into Norwegian with the word «spediteur». Thanks again for your great assistance! Very sincerely yours, Lars E.
