Dear Listers! I am sure many of you have heard of Arne Brekke and his tours to Norway! I received this message this afternoon from an assistant of his in Grand Forks, ND. This is indeed sad news.  The Norwegian American community has lost a great resource.  There is an obituary posted at: https://www.grandforksherald.com/news/education/4465328-arne-brekke-90-remembered-commitment-norwegian-heritage Note that Arne is responsible for the bygdebok collection at the University of Norway Dakota, which is the largest such collection in the United States. Having visited the Chester Fritz at UND several times, I am quite familiar, and appreciative, of its collection. I came across a 1957 article in the Globe-Gazette of Mason City, Iowa, at newspapers.com, that I had saved (it happened to be on the same page as someone I was looking for) that talks of his tour beginnings.
