Could it say something like "tussis conculsiva" in the first line? That is whooping cough. I think that might be it.  I enlarged the image until the pixels nearly separated and it sure looks like it could be.  I should imagine it's possible for a person to have both whooping cough and bronchitis at the same time.  Poor kid.  He must have been so miserable!
