Dear Listers, Would anyone have clues to help me confirm information that I have, quite sketchy, about Jens Kristenson Fjaerestad? He went by Jens C. Fjerestad much of his life in America. We have info that he emigrated out of Norway in 1874 and first came to Dodge Cty, MN where my g.g.grandfather (his uncle) farmed, and possibly stayed with him for a short while. Jens married someone from Norway named Randine S. but other than Census data showing her her born about when he was, and in Norway and her gravestone (at FindaGrave.com) we know little of his wife. They had at least one child: Anna C. Fjerestad, and I posted her info about her death in 1918 at the FindaGrave I created for Jens. Thank you, Bev! Fun to see what you sent. Fjaerestad is a farm in Balestrand and has been for some centuries. My g.grandmother, born in Balestrand to Peder Kristenson Fjaerestad (of Balestrand), married my g.grandfather Bendik J. Fjaerestad born in Vik i Sogn. So that's a good fit for what you mention about the Vik farm. I've been to both places. Beautiful! If any one has a clue to when and where Jens died, and if he ever remarried, I would appreciate any tips. The obit of his 'daughter' or 'niece' as she probably was, indicates in 1918 Jens and daughter were headed to winter in San Diego and she died before they got there. I see her gravestone at FindaGrave. Not sure if he stayed in CA or went back to SD but I do not find him again after that. I do not have paid subscriptions (obits, ancestry.com, etc) and hoping maybe if someone has those we can get some puzzles solved for Jens. Thank you! Vik Sogn, Vik Prestegjeld, Sogn og Fjordane..., not Vik farm. Vik is on the southerly side of the fjord, and Balestrand just a short way west and on the opposite side of that same fjord if you look at the map.  The people there did travel back and forth.  I think they're called municipalities or kommunes today, but for the time period you're inquiring about, they were Prestegjelds. Vik i Sogn is where my Balestrand g.g randmother's husband, Bendik Johannaeson Fjaerestad was born, on the Fjaerestad farm there in Vik. I sitll have living relatives and visited them there in 2014, both in Vik i Sogn and around the corner at the Svardal farm at the mouth of the Arnefjord! My grandpa used to sing, "I'm my own grandpa", if you are old enough maybe your parents or grandparents sang it to you. Grandpa had a wonderful sense of humor and always laughed when singing it. Hei and thank you Clark!&nbsp; &nbsp; You have found in 1873 the older brother of Jens, they did leave Norway in 1873 and had some children in Norway who also came with them. The census in 1910 shows Chris (Kristen) Fjerestad farming near Jens. If it is any help, the daughter Anna (Anne, Annie) seems to not be adopted but called a 'niece' in 1910 and is born in MN but living her entire life in SD.&nbsp; &nbsp;That may confuse things so no worries about Annie.
