    3. Dear Listers! For years I have tried to figure out what happened to this young man: Hans Pederson Mjelva, born at Kinserdal in Hafslo parish, Luster Co., Norway Sep. 29, 1839, moved in 1844 with his parents to the Mjelva in Grytten Co., Norway. He lived for a couple of years in Kristiansund, Norway, but then, in the 1865 census, under his parents on the Mjelva farm it says: «Hans Pedersen (Mjelva), aged 27, born Luster, their son, single, military is gone to America» It doesn’t say specifically when he emigrated, but it is most likely in 1865. Maybe he left to fight in the Civil War, but the War was about over by the time he arrived? I have found absolutely no trace of this man in American records. He was the only child in this family who ever emigrated, and I have no idea where to look for him!? He did have several uncles on both sides who were among the first Norwegian settlers in Buffalo Co., WI, but I can find no sign of Hans in that neighborhood! Any suggestions as to what may have become of Hans in America, would be most welcome and appreciated! Thanks a million in advance! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane
