    3. Her går raset i Geirangerfjorden https://www.nrk.no/mr/steinras-i-geirangerfjorden-1.13507378 Pictures and at the end of the written article there is a half-hour video of preparations for a controlled avalanche (there's a short few second video at the beginning showing the rock slide into the fjord). The people were filmed showing where a place was about to split off the side of the mountain into the fjord, laying explosives, and preparing for a safe procedure. The longer I listen to the words being spoken, the more I could understand. I ran the article through Google Translate, but didn't understand all that much. I gleaned more from watching the video, complete with maps so you know where Åkerneset is located in the fjords in that area where this controlled avalanche was done. It was very near a town, and I gather the kids in school were all going to be able to see the whole thing, plus tourist ships were bringing people in for the spectacle. Quite the excitement after all that preparation and the actual event was over in a minute or so. :-) I think the purpose of the controlled avalanche was to prevent a tsunami effect throughout the entire fjord region. Perhaps someone with more knowledge of the Norwegian language could fill us in on the details. They interviewed someone who had old pictures of people recovering dead bodies in body bags, lots of physical damage to property, so these rock slides have happened in the past with dire consequences. It made me wonder if it has affected anyone's ancestors who were from the region. Beste, Bev
