    3. Hei Greg - Fröskog parish is in Åmål Härad, Älvsborg län, Sweden for the time period you are talking about (boundaries have changed since then) - the only part I get on a Wikipedia search is a photo of the church and an article in Swedish. I can send you both halves of the Älvsborg län map if you wish; Åmål Härad is in the top half. [The entire zipped atlas file of all pre-1992 counties/läns with parishes listed inside härads in Sweden is 17.7 MB. If you want it, off-list, I'll be happy to send individual pages or the whole file if your ISP lets you get a file that big. The web site that used to have the maps online no longer has them online, but I was able to download the whole file before that was taken offline, too. With boundary changes some läns changed names, as well as härads. For the time periods we usually research, the maps are valid.] How long does it take to get from the port city of Göteborg, Sweden to Christiania/Oslo by ship? Fröskog isn't very far from Göteborg on the Swedish map - or from the Norway-Sweden border, for that matter, so a train trip also seems logical. Is it possible the person you're researching went from Fröskog to Göteborg by public transport, then to Christiania, then embarked on another ship at Christiania? Or was included on the same passenger list that started out in Göteborg and was added to at Christiania? http://norwayheritage.com/p_ship.asp?sh=kobjo Remember, some immigrant feeder ships that served the Norwegian ports also served ports in Denmark and Sweden (as did the Kong Bjørn/Björn which was built in Malmø/Malmö, Sweden)..., and if you have dates from the utflytting records in Sweden, they could be entered any time before or after the actual date the person left the parish (but they did have to leave the parish "with permission" - in 1878 a Swedish 66-year old widowed gr-gr-grandmother of mine "absconded without permission" from the Swedish parish where she resided). To get there in 3 days, I'm guessing would have required traveling by train. I've searched for info on the net about train travel between Norway and Sweden at that time, and haven't found anything. > > Any suggestions as to mode of travel and route would be greatly appreciated. > > Thanks. > > Greg in Minnesota >

    2. On skis is not a weird suggestion. I remember the story of one of my distant familymembers in WW II: He fled from Oslo to Sweden on skis for the Germans. In Norway always remember that they travel by boat (because of the many rivers and lakes) and in winter on skis. You must find out if winter was strong in 1891 and if there was already snow around 21 october 1891. 3. Thanks for the info, and the offer of the map, but I don't think it is necessary. Thanks again. ________________________________ From: NORWAY <[email protected]> on behalf of Bev Anderson <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, March 14, 2017 11:19 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [NOR] Travel betweek Fröskog, Älvsborg, Sweden and Christiania Norway in 1891 Hei Greg - Fröskog parish is in Åmål Härad, Älvsborg län, Sweden for the time period you are talking about (boundaries have changed since then) - the only part I get on a Wikipedia search is a photo of the church and an article in Swedish.
