    1. [NOR] John H. Thompson - another Civil War Soldier
    2. Lars E. Oyane
    3. Dear Listers, As I recently had an inquiry about lookups of Civil War Soldiers, this person showed up: > John H. Thompson > in the Ohio, Soldier Grave Registrations, 1804-1958 > > Ohio, Soldier Grave Registrations, 1804-1958 > > Name: > John H. Thompson > [T Thompson] > > Birth Date: > 1841 > > Enlistment Date: > 1 Sep 1861 > > Discharge Date: > 12 Jun 1865 > > Burial Place: > Sharon, Ohio, USA > > Cemetery: > Old Sharon > > Rank: > Private > > Branch of Service: > Army https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/32990488/john-thompson I am looking for one John Torstenson Hillestad aka John H. Thompson, born in Hafslo parish, Luster Co., Norway on July 12, 1841, emigrated in 1861 to Lodi, WI and would «logically» enlist in Wisconsin! This John H. Thompson buried at Sharon, OH would be a perfect «match», but my big question remains: Did he enlist from Wisconsin, or is this an entirely different person? Thanks a million for any suggestions in this matter! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane

    3. Fold3 has an index card for John H. Thompson, Co. I, 31 Wisconsin Infantry, entered as a Private, highest rank sergeant. I found this John Thompson born 1841, buried in Sharon Cemetery Old, Sharon, Ohio, but it doesn't say he was a soldier and his middle initial was not H. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/83670586/john-alexander-thompson Annette<div id="DAB4FAD8-2DD7-40BB-A1B8-4E2AA1F9FDF2"><br /> <table style="border-top: 1px solid #D3D4DE;"> <tr> <td style="width: 55px; padding-top: 13px;"><a href="http://www.avg.com/email-signature?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail" target="_blank"><img src="https://ipmcdn.avast.com/images/icons/icon-envelope-tick-green-avg-v1.png" alt="" width="46" height="29" style="width: 46px; height: 29px;" /></a></td> <td style="width: 470px; padding-top: 12px; color: #41424e; font-size: 13px; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 18px;">Virus-free. <a href="http://www.avg.com/email-signature?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail" target="_blank" style="color: #4453ea;">www.avg.com</a> </td> </tr> </table><a href="#DAB4FAD8-2DD7-40BB-A1B8-4E2AA1F9FDF2" width="1" height="1"></a></div> On 5/20/18, Lars E. 3. Dear Annette and other Listers! Thank you very much, Annette, for your interesting message. Now, since I don’t subscribe to Fold3, I cannot pick up the index card you mention for John H. Thompson, but am I to understand he be the one who enlisted Sep. 1, 1861 and was discharged June 12, 1865? And he has nothing to do with the one buried at Sharon, OH? It’s indeed confusing for me… By the way, where did he enlist? Thanks again for your great assistance in this matter! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. 3. Lars, I did some research today and what I saw of your John H Thompson made me conclude that the Ohio Thompson is not your guy. Looks like he was born in Ohio. I looked at the Wisconsin Historical Society civil war lists and could not determine where he enlisted or the date, but there is a John H Thompson on the Wisconsin civil war list with no information other than his name. I can't get into Fold3 either. Not in the census as John H Thompson, but there are three John Thompson's in Gilman, Washara, and in Waukeshaw with same birth date and born in Norway. I see nothing with Lodi, Wisconsin, other than the white pages with a couple people and businesses and a street with name of Hillestad. So there is a Norway connection to Lodi. I struck out.
