    3. Lars, Findagrave has a tombstone for Frederick Irgens in Norway Cemetery in LaSalle, IL. He might be the child's father. If so, he may have died before her birth. There are 3 Canursons recorded in that cemetery on Findagrave, but not your Ole and Anna. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=49730393 There is a Frederica Irgens in Grundy Co., Illinois. The transcription says she was born Jan 23, 1878, but the photo of the tombstone looks like 1876 to me. This girl died Mar. 20, 1895, which would explain why you didn't find her in a later census. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=36082328 I wonder if the parents' name might be Knutson rather than Canutson (or have been recorded with that spelling). 3. I didn’t see this go through, so I’ll try again and add a few thoughts. Hi Lars, I think the spellings for her name came from the clerk. It just sounded that way to him. I’m just going on memory here, but wasn’t it the same clerk clerk that misspelled her name different two times? Also, These are guardianship papers, not probate. Fredericka was still alive for these court proceedings. Here’s what I see from the info. 1) Frederica Irgens was the daughter of Annie J. (Canntison, Caunteson, Canutson, Caunteson, Canuteson?) formerly Anna Irgens. 2) The Anna mentioned above died 28 December 1883. 3) Anna was the wife of Frederick Irgens 4) Frederick Irgens and Anna had a daughter Fredericke(a) Irgens who was the sole heir to Frederick Irgens’ inheritance from his Norwegian family. 5) Frederick Irgens’ mother was named Sophia Irgens. What I don’t see is Ole Canuston. Did he die prior to all of this? Also, why was Fredricka’s mother trying to get guardianship? She was the mother. I don’t understand why a mother would need a court order to obtain guardianship. -Mark Not sure if you can see the documents. The first guardianship says Fredricka will receive 2,000 dollars. A lot of money back then. The second document says she will receive 2,500 dollars. Anna Irgens started all of the legal proceedings before she married Ole. The Illinois Supreme Court documents were about what seems to be a debt or policy that her husband (Frederick Irgens) entered into, and was then altered. Anna claimed that she was not responsible for a debt that was altered without her knowledge. She thought all debts were paid, but the other party wanted more money. In the end the Court agreed with Anna, but it took a long time.
