Dear Listers, Can someone please help me with these lookups from Iowa newspapers: The Fort Dodge, IA Newspaper Index shows that: The Northwest Chronicle of June 24, 1885 on page 3 has a mention of the death of one Anna (Mrs. Ole) LEWIS. The Northwest Chronicle of Jan. 27, 1886 on page 4 and again on Feb. 3, 1886 on page 1 has a mention of an injury of Christopher LEWIS. The first one of these is particularly interesting since the Mrs. Ole (Anna) Lewis whom I know from Webster Co., IA, divorced her Ole about 1883 and moved to Stoughton, WI where she died in 1898!! Dear Listers! Yesterday I learned from the Ft. Dodge, IA public library that the library has gone online with a number of old newspapers for free use to research, including the Northwest Chronice (http://fortdodge.advantage-preservation.com/), so I was able to find these newspaper items myself! Now, I was very surprised to read the notices. How the index has been made, I don't quite understand. The first item from 1885 appeared to be a one-liner about Ole Lewis of Badger, IA having "again" become a grass widower! The ones from 1886 was about the same Ole Lewis having fallen and broken one of his legs at two spots. The follow-up notice told about Ole being "intoxicated" jumping out of his bed making the injury even worse, causing a risk for his leg as well as for his life(!). It's sometimes great entertainment reading those old newspapers, in my opinion a thousand times better than watching today's "TV-shows"!! Very sincerely yours, Lars E.
