Dear Listers! I have been working on this problem for years, but have never managed to come up with any adequate reply! Maria Johannesdotter Urness aka Hill aka Hogan aka Kins aka Johnson, daughter of "husmann" Johannes Monsson and wife Maria Hansdotter, livig on the Haugen place in Kinserdal valley, Urness farm in Hafslo parish, Luster Co., Norway, was born in Hafslo Aug. 26, 1865, but emigrated in 1885. Maria had four older brothers and two older sisters who all emigrated to the US between 1867 and 1882. They went by different last names, Urness, Kins, Hill and Hogan. They all "started out" in Buffalo Co., WI and lived there at the time Maria emigrated in 1885. The ONLY reference to Maria's destiny comes from a biography of one of her brothers which refers to "sister Mary Johnson lived near Chicago, IL". I SUPPOSE she must have married someone named JOHNSON, but I am unable to identify her in any census records in Illinois! Any suggestions that may solve this problem, would be very much appreciated!
