Hi Brenda, Is it possible he lived in Norway for a while while awaiting passage? Do you know which departure port was - or the name of the ship, or shipping agent? This to see if he did leave from Norway. If he arrived in New York , he would have been processed at Castle Island. Ellis Island didn't open until 1892. Other possibilities are St. Albans VT Boston, Halilfax Nova Scotia. or some other port in Canada. Since it was summer, the passage would have been open. Do you know his destination or where he lived after arriving?
