Dear Kathy and other Listers! Thank you very much, Kathy, for your additional research on the Schuster family. This family has been rather "frustrating" to research, so many children and so widely "spread out". And still there are details I just cannot find! I am so happy Pete has finally been located, and in fact your transcript of the 1885 census partly explains why he never communicated much with his family; it said that he, at the age of 20, "cannot write"! By the way, his sister Jessie, who was with him in 1910, was married at Meeker, Rio Blanco Co., CO on May 16, 1910 to a man named Val DuVal Park from Montrose Co., CO and then moved to Delta Co., CO! Another brother George H. Schuster, born in NE July of 1886, ended up at the Nebraska State Hospital at Hastings, Adams Co., NE where his WW1 draft was signed by his Doctor on his behalf in 1918, but a death date seems hard to locate... The MAIN problem now remains, however, after the discovery of Pete, the destiny of MIKE Schuster. I can hardly think he wouldn't show up in any newspaper articles if it's true the story I was told about him. The biggest problem may, however, be to figure out exactly WHERE he went...!? Thanks again for your wonderful assistance with this family problem of mine! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane PS: I notice the online family trees use the maiden name OWENS for Ingeborg "Emily" Schuster. Their name was Oyane or actually Oiene, as it was spelt back then, but it was "Americanized" to Owens! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Mar 21, 2015, at 11:13 PM, Kathy Hines wrote: > I had a hard time finding this bunch in the Houston census records for the state of Minnesota. This sounds like your Mike Shuster. In 1915 he’s in Wyoming employed by the Wyoming Coal Company. Christmas Eve he has an accident. Annual Report of the State Coal Mine Inspectors of Wyoming Report of Non-Fatal Accidents in District No. 1 from October 1, 1915, to September 30, 1916. http://tinyurl.com/ptohht9 Dec. 24, 1915; Mike Shuster, occupation miner; cause of accident, fall of coal; character of injuries, bruised shoulder; employed by Wyoming Coal Company.
The book says that the Wyoming Coal Company’s mine is located in Rock Springs. Wyoming has online newspapers for this time period and city. http://newspapers.wyo.gov
Dear Mark and other Listers! Thank you very much, Mark, for your latest message in regard to Mike Shuster! I am unable to reed all of the page describing him, but I found him in the WW1 draft records as well as in census records from 1910 and 1920. It appears he had a brother Joe Shuster, and they were born in AUSTRIA. And this Mike was employed by Wyoming Coal Company! The age is close, but unless you have information about him identifying him as being born in MN to Prussian father and Norwegian mother, I am afraid this has to be a different Mike...? Thanks again for your great assistance in this matter! Very sincerely yours, Lars E.
