I guess the Ole below fits not badly, but is Ole Ericksen Urnes 13 May 1897 the son of Margrethe Jensdatter and Ivar Eriksen? I don't see anywhere where he was drafted for WWI - Maybe enlisted after the war? Note the Ole below is married... I can't find Ole born 13 May 1897 anywhere in Norway in 1910 ??? Dear Jerrald, Cliff and other Listers! Thank you very much to both of you for interesting messages! This Ole C. Erickson who shows up in the 1920 census for St. Louis, MO, sounds very "close", but I am not convinced it be him!? "Our" Ole was the son of Erik Hansson Urnes (1846-1911) and wife Margretha Tollefsdotter (1864-1960). I notice that he is listed in the 1910 census with birthdate May 16, 1897 rather than May 13, 1897! And the "place name" Lindestegen is used as family name! The relatives of Ole's (nephews and nieces) seem quite sure that Ole was killed in WW1 I should add that only one of Ole's siblings ever emigrated: Jens Erikson Urnes, born in Hafslo, Norway Oct. 10, 1894. He emigrated in 1912 to Minnesota and changed his name to John Erickson! BUT, his WW1 draft card shows him as JENS URNESS of Fargo, ND with no relatives listed! He must have changed his name AFTER the war(?)... So, still quite a "mystery" what became of "our" Ole!? Thanks again for your interest and assistance in this matter! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Dear Cliff and other Listers! Thank you very much, Cliff, for your new messages in regard to Ole Urness buried at Meuse-Argonne in France. As you say, he was also born in Hafslo, but on Apr. 7, 1894 and is an entirely different person! There should, however, be a similar grave for Ole Erickson/Urnes in France...(?) Thanks again for your efforts in this matter! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. I did find an Ole Urness entering the service 5 Jun 1918 at Chickasaw, Iowa But his birthdate is 7 Apr 1894 He was, however, born in Haflso so maybe Lars already knows of this Ole? He works for Jens Knutson, Jacksonville Twp, Chickasaw Co and his address is New Hampton. Cliff Lien Alberta, Canada cjl@interbaun.com
