Dear Listers! This topic has been "quiet" for quite a while, but I wanted to let you know, I am still working on it! Yesterday a friend of mine in Madison, WI was able to examine parts of the Wisconsin State Death Index, and he tells me the following: "There is NO death record found for Hans Christian in the period from 1950 thru 1960", so IF Hans died in Milwaukee, WI (or in the state of Wisconsin), he must have died between 1930 and 1950 - still a long time period to search, but I guess we have no other way of trying... My friend in Madison, WI MAY be able to check the remaining period, but it won't be for a while... Thanks again for any suggestions! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Dear Lars, I might add, that there were far fewer Nursing homes, and other places where the elderly might be placed if needed. SInce he was single, there may not have been someone to see to his needs and he may have been with friends or someone who opened their doors to those who needed help. My grandmother used to care for friends and relatives and friends of friends , who could no longer carry on by themselves - and this went into the 1950s. There were some Old Aged Homes that were sponsored by the public, for the needy. The folks my grandmother cared for were able to get around and needed transportation to doctor's appointments or the doctors came to the house. SHe did not get into what might better be called a Nurse. One man was there for years and had his own garden where he and my grandfather were in competition as to who could harvest the peas first and woe be if they peeked at the other's garden.:} The gardens were set apart on the farm. Dear Listers! I wanted to let you know, I have still not given up trying to find the death of Hans Christian Halvorsen, presumably died in Milwaukee, WI after 1930. Now the Wisconsin state death index has been examined for the period 1940-1960, but still no success. And then I have found this entry, and I feel quite sure this must be him, in the Milwaukee, WI 1933 city directory: ~~~~~ Name: Hans C Halvorsen Residence Year: 1933 Street address: 102 N 50th pi Residence Place: Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Publication Title: Milwaukee, Wisconsin, City Directory, 1933 ~~~~~ The next city directory I can find is from 1939, and there I do NOT find him! So it seems like we're getting closer... Thanks again to all of your for your great assistance trying to figure out what finally became of our Hans! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. My friend in Madison, WI MAY be able to check the remaining period, but it won't be for a while... > > Thanks again for any suggestions! > > Very sincerely yours, > > Lars E.
