    1. Re: [NOR] Lofotens : Edvard Severin Sandberg Pedersen 1855 - 1946/7 Death ?

    3. Edvard Severin Sandberg Pedersen, born 29 April 1855 to Peder Henrik Andreassen of Øvrevalle (born 24 May 1801, died before 1875 at sea) and Marie Sophie Olsdatter of Stokvig (born 28 September 1829, married 28 December 1848 in Flakstad Church, died around 1900 at Marken). She became a Guds Menighet and her death date doesn't seem to be available, for the same reasons as Edvard's death date. Sara Jörgine Samuelsdatter, born 7 June 1858 at Indresand, to Else Marie Mortensdatter of Indresand (born 27 June 1835, Indresand, married 30 October 1860 , I could find no date of death), and Samuel Andersen (described elsewhere as Samuel Bugge Grøn Anderssen) of Nesland (born 14 July 1835, Nesland?, died 21 May 1924, place unknown). Sara's paternal grandparents were Anders Andreas Andersen and Anne Kirstine Abrahamsdatter. Her maternal grandparents were Morten Knudsen (born 1798, Straume?, married 27 December 1828, died 25 February 1869) and Kristine Hartvigsdatter (born 1799 in Berg, Hol, Vesvågøy, death unknown). Kristine Hatvigsdatter was of the Rist family, born to Hartvig Johannesen Rist. Edvard and Sara lived at his mother's Marken farm. After Sara's death from tuberculosis, he emigrated to Inwood, Manitoba, Canada, bringing his two children over the following year. There he homesteaded, and retired to the Inwood village. In either 1946 or 1947, he decided to return to the Lofotens. From a distant relative I learned that the family story of him tripping while getting off his ship and breaking a hip (?) was true. He was hospitalized on the Lofotens and then placed in a Care Home until his death. Senior members of the Guds Menighet visited him, apparently, a number of times. He was buried near Sara in the Guds Menighet cemetery at Fredvang. (a GM member there kindly sent me the photographs of their gravesites). I have most of the records for the above from the Flakstad Churchbooks. But nothing except anecdotal information on Edvard's death. (perhaps the problem with obtaining that record is this : I corresponded with a person at the GM School who was attempting to put together a history of the Guds Menighet and I provided him with information on the group in Inwood and Eugene. For some reason, I was contacted by a Norwegian company who were working on a documentary of the GM but I responded that I could not help them with anything but the North American experience and was not further contacted. I have been told that there were issues explored at various times by the media and, just perhaps, the Fredvang contacts might have considered I had supplied the Norwegian company with information and, therefore, no longer wished to communicate with me. If so, that is an extreme pity since so many of my family members and friends' relatives over here were strong Guds Menighet members. Since losing contact, I have so much more information on the North American experience and I'd love to share it with the archivist. But this is only a supposition. ) Thanks for your help.
