    3. Lars, Wallace, Idaho, is the Shoshone County seat, so the county may have some relevant records.  (I will be passing through Wallace a couple times in June, going back to North Dakota and returning later, but I don't believe I will be there at the right time of day or the right day of the week to be able to do anything at the county courthouse.) Also, USGenWeb lists some lookup volunteers for Shoshone County resources, although the website looks like it may be totally out of date.  And the Shoshone County Genealogical and Historical Society is located in Kellogg, Idaho and may be other resources. Wallace had a miner's strike in 1892 in which a number of lives were lost.  They also had a huge fire in 1910.  These events may well hinder the ability to track these people there. And just for fun, for those who may not be aware, Wallace is the self-proclaimed center of the universe.  The location marker is in the middle of a street intersection in downtown Wallace.  You can check that out on Wikipedia. 3. In Idaho there is no waiting period between being issued a marriage license and getting married. It's likely still true that divorces are still easy to obtain, too (altho that comes with a residency requirement whereas there is no residency requirement for marriage licenses and marriages). http://www.idaho.gov/family_records/marriage.html FYI, to add another dimension to the location, Wallace used to have many "houses of ill-repute." Many, many decades ago when politicians wanted to be elected they'd run on a platform of shutting down the houses of prostitution..., but that never lasted longer than the campaigns. The largest silver mines were between Kellogg & Wallace - on May 2, 1972, the Sunshine Mine collapsed near Kellogg, 91 were killed, and it now has a memorial at the entrance. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunshine_Mine Beste hilsen, Bev ----- Original Message ----- From: Gregory Holter via <norway@rootsweb.com> To: Lars E. 3. I just noticed that you said Charles Shaw might have ben a railroad fireman. These articles sound like a good match. Idaho Statesman; 21 Nov. 1900; page 5 FATAL WRECKS OCCUR IN COLORADO Denver, Colo., Nov. 20 - Two fatal wrecks occurred on the Denver & Rio Grande railway this morning. Freight train No. 70, eastbound, on the narrow gauge, became unmanageable on a steep grade and near Gray’s station the engine jumped the track and 12 cars piled on top of it. Brakeman Charles Shaw was instantly killed. Fireman Albert Brasswell is still under the wreckage and supposed to be dead. San Francisco used FIVE headlines on the front page for their story. San Francisco Call; Nov 21, 1900; page 1 CARS DASH DOWN THE MOUNTAIN Thrilling Disasters in Which Three Men Meet Death. From the Summit of Marshall Pass Runaway Train Descends. A FEARFUL VELOCITY ATTAINED Engineer, Fireman and Other Hands Remain at Their Posts Until the Accident Occurs. Denver, Colo., Nov. 20 - Three men were killed, three probably fatally injured and one other more or less injured in two wrecks on the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad between 1 o’clock and 1:30 this morning. The dead: CHARLES SHAW, Salida, brakeman …It goes on. Long article.

    3. Dear Earl, Mark, Bev and other Listers! Thank you very much for your interesting messages in regard to the Shaw family, some of which came off-list. I am so touched and impressed to see how you all try to help me, and I have studied the various "candidates" as well as I can. * The pallbearer Charles Shaw from Helena, MT 1939 would, in my opinion, be a little old to be a pallbearer, don't you think? He was about 84 at the time... * Mrs. Margaret Shaw, who died at Anaconda, MT in 1918, whom you Mark told me about, was 34 years old, so I guess she is too old to be "our" Margaret..., and she was obviously married to someone named Shaw... * Charles Shaw, the brakeman who was killed in the train accident in the fall of 1900, came from Salida, CO, and the 1900 census shows him in Salida, CO as an unmarried boy of 20 years of age still residing at home with his parents, so he cannot be the one either... * Sam O. Shaw of Butte, MT who died in 1930 and was survived by brother Charles Shaw in Canada, was apparently from a different family. Here is Sam's marriage record: Name: Samuel O Shaw Event Type: Marriage Event Date: 22 Jan 1909 Event Place: Missoula, , Montana Age: 44 Birth Year (Estimated): 1865 Father's Name: Samuel H Shaw Mother's Name: Emma C Gallup Spouse's Name: Sadie F Ayers Spouse's Age: 32 Spouse's Birth Year (Estimated): 1877 Spouse's Father's Name: Ailin Ayers Spouse's Mother's Name: Almira Miner So I guess we are still at "point 0".... This family is sure hiding well! Could it be that Charles did return to Canada after all? Thanks again for all of your wonderful assistance in his matter! I keep crossing my fingers and hope... This family has been one of the most frustrating ones I have ever been researching, but I have managed to trace families before which probate courts, whether it be in Norway (one case from the 1910's - later also tried by the Salvation Army!) or in Yankton Co., SD (one case from the 1920's which I solved in part), never did, so I haven't given up quite yet.
