Dear Listers! This topic was last discussed about a month ago, and it ended by our co-lister Doris saying Mar. 14 the following: "Do you still need the marriage of John and Matilda, in the fall of 1919? If it was in OR or Seattle, and the paperwork still exists, I should be able to find it for you." However. Doris has gotten so involved with preparing her mother's 100th birthday (congratulations Doris for your mother!), and she just doesn't have the time to look for this record for me. Here is some of what Doris wrote me today: "So, I don't think I can be any more help in tracking down this marriage record for you. I know there are a couple of listers in WA, so perhaps if you repost to the list, they will be better than I have been at helping you out", which is what I do by the current message! To summarize the problem: ~~~~~ Mathilda/Matilda Christianson Bjornthun Webber, born in Hof County, Hedmark fylke, Norway Nov. 23, 1874, died in Seattle, WA May 31, 1927 and is buried in a single grave at Forest Lawn cemetery in Seattle, WA. She married her 3rd husband Emery Ellsworth Webber at Vancouver, WA on Sep. 29, 1913. According to a newspaper clipping sent by co-lister Mark she officially divorced Mr. Webber in April of 1919. However, the 1917 Portland city directory shows these entries: * J. Wm. Anderson (Matilda), printer, res. 1917 on 308 Jackson * Emery Webber (Matilda), chimney sweep., res. 690 1/2 E Morrison so there is apparently kind of a "time lag" in the city directory? Matilda was at this time still "formally" married to Elmer Webber, while in "reality" she was apparently already in 1917 "living with" John William Anderson! In the WW1 draft records from 1918 Elmer Ellsworth Webber (born Oct. 4, 1875) is clearly alone, since his "nearest relative" was his mother, while John William Anderson (born Aug. 4, 1877)'s "nearest relative" was his wife Matilda? My BIG PROBLEM: When and where did John William Anderson marry Mat(h)ilda Christianson Bjornthun Webber? Maybe Seattle, WA is the most likely place considering the following facts: The WW1 draft record for John William Anderson shows he and Mat(h)ilda moved to 2957 Charles Street No., Seattle, WA shortly after the draft record was written, and we find him and Mat(h)ilda in Seattle, WA city directories as follows: * 1920: John W. Anderson (Matilda), salesman, res. B3716 Angeline * 1922: John W. Anderson (Matilda), salesman Tent & Awning Co., res. 3716 Angeline * 1924: J Wm Anderson (Matilda), res. 4017 23rd Ave SW * 1925: John W. Anderson (Mathilda), laborer, res. 4017 23rd Ave SW * 1926: Wm Anderson (Matilda), foreman ST&A Co, res. 4015(!) 23rd Ave SW * 1927: John W Anderson (Mathilda), salesman, res. 4017 23rd Ave SW Then John married Lucette, and they are together for one year: * 1928: John W Anderson (Lucette), salesman ST&A Co, res. 713 28th Ave Lucette remained on the same address, while John moved out. Perhaps these entries are for him: * 1929: J W Anderson, res. 2320 41st Ave SW * 1930: J W Anderson, laborer, res. Hazel, WA My 2ND PROBLEM: I have always wondered what became of John William Anderson! Any suggestions? ~~~~~ Thank you once again, dear NORWAY listers, for any assistance you can give me in order to find the answers to my last questions about this family! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane
Dear Listers! This morning I would very much like to resend a few past inquiries about individuals that may have been forgotten, and which I am VERY interested in trying to fill in missing details about before going to press. This is one of them, and I wish to thank you all very very much for every little bit and piece of information that can be found, perhaps basically thru newspaper notices(?).
