    3. Regarding marriages of Wisconsin couples not being found in Wisconsin. One of my cousin's uncles told the story in his memoirs that he and his girlfriend wanted to get married in Kenosha in 1902, had a date set, and plans to move to Nebraska right after the wedding. However, when they went to get their marriage license in Wisconsin they were told they had to wait three days. Desperate because they could not change their travel plans, they asked what they should do. The clerk said "Why don't you go to Waukegan, IL. That's what many couples do" and said that the Wisconsin marriage license was good in Illinois with no delay. So they took the train to Waukegan and told the taxi driver they found at the station their dilemma. He took them promptly to a minister, like he had had that request before. They married immediately and were back in Kenosha only a little bit late for the reception their family had planned. So looking in Illinois for the marriage is definitely a good idea. She is the one who told me Emma was born in Taylor Co., WI Nov. 23, 1883 to the parents Christian and Rosina Buehler. What she did NOT know, was when or where her parents were married!
