I am helping Sons of Norway lodge members with their genealogies and have run into a problem with the above named area. I cannot find any sign that this area was included in the 1865 census. Does anyone know if this was true? Also, can anyone suggest books or sites that give some history? I suspect there were some Sami there because of some names-is this true? One of the members is visiting there in the summer and wants to know as much as possible. Thank you for any help. Virginia Lindsey

When in doubt, always try Wikipedia first. :-) A great many times it has info no other web sites have, and they're usually even correct for these little info pages. Sometimes there is a bit of history and you can find out when some of these areas came into being, why they are or are not in census data depends on dates their areas were part of another area or when they were made separate. For that, and guessing games to try to figure out where the people are, check the parish numbers that precede the name of the parish in the Digitalarkivet web sites.
