    1. [NOR] Peter and Sarah Olson in Oil City ,PA and MN
    2. Erik Hov via
    3. Hello. I am trying to find out more about this couple ,and some of their possible descendants. Peder Olsen as he was in Norway ,was born at Tuveng in Tynset ,Hedmark 3 May 1846 ,and was married in Tynset 12 Apr 1871 to Sigrid Bersvendsdatter Maana ,born 4 Jun 1848 in Alvdal ,Hedmark. I have not found their emigration to US ,but they probably emigrated the same day they were married. That is according to the record of their arrival back to Norway in 1880. In the 1880 census they were living in Oil City ,Pennsylvania https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MWVV-WKY with the children Sarah born Norway abt 1872 ,Ole born Norway abt 1874 ,and Martin Astan ,born PA ca 1877. Strangely this family are surnamed "Astan" in 1880 ,and I have no idea why. More interesting is that they came back to Tuveng in Tynset on 29 Oct 1880 Source information: Hedmark county, Tynset in Tynset, Parish register copy nr. 6 (1880-1899), Imigration records 1880-1888, page 259. Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=3593&idx_id=3593&uid=ny&id x_side=-242 Permanent imagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1450-kb20060419020393.jpg They got another son in Tynset 1882 ,before at least the father Peder emigrated again. I have in my notes that Peder emigrated on the ship D/S Origo 16 apr 1882 ,and that his wife and children emigrated after him ,but I haven`t found the emigration records. Apparently the birthplaces from the 1880 census are wrong ,since the record from 1880 when the family came back from US clearly tell that all the 3 older children were born in Oil City. What I know about them is this: 1 Sery/Sigrid/Sarah Olson ,born in Oil City ,PA 1 Sep 1872 ,christened same place 6 Nov 1872 , 2 Ole Johannes Olson ,born in Oil City ,PA 24 Aug 1874 ,christened same place 29 Sep 1874 3 Martin Bertinius Olson ,born in Oil City ,PA 5 Jan 1877 ,christened same place 4 Feb 1877 , 4 Bernhard Magnus Olson/Olsen ,born at Nedre Kjæreng/Tuveng in Tynset 23 Sep 1882 ,and died in Minneapolis ,MN 11 Nov 1914......probably never married. I am in touch with some descendants of the son Ole ,but they don`t know anything about his family. Ole was married to Ida Ween ,and he also later went by the name Ole Ween. Ole died in 1933 in Minneapolis ,and it is said by the family that he was born in Pennsylvania to parents in Minnesota. Guess that would mean that Ole`s parents lived in Minnesota after they emigrated?. I have not found the emigration of Sigrid and her children after 1882 ,and no record of Sigrid after 1882 ,and don`t know if Peder and Sigrid got more children either after Bernhard. Only clue I have is from Ole`s obituary from 1933 that says that he is survived by a brother. (of course it gives no name or place). If Peder and Sigrid had only these 4 children ,Martin should be the brother still alive in 1933 ,but I don`t KNOW it. I would appreciate any information on the family of Peder/Peter and Sigrid/Sarah!!. Hope someone can find something!!. Thanks. Erik

    3. Thanks for finding the migration from Norway 1871. I must have overlooked that one. Of course we don`t know yet ,if that Martin in Seattle 1900 and Canada 1901 is the one I am looking for ,but I wonder where in Canada “F, Unorganized Territories/territoires Non-organisés,The Territories, Canada” are located??. It doesn`t tell me anything ,but if we could see the household ,it might be possible to tell if it is the same Martin Bertinius. Have taken a look at familysearch myself (don`t have subscription to ancestry) looking for the daughter Sarah ,and found a Sarah Grasem https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M9Q9-FQT it fits her birth month/year/place ,but can`t find more on her or her family. 3. Here is a link to the Canadian Archives image for this Martin B Olson He is in Dawson (City) in the Yukon <http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/census/1901/Pages/results.aspx?k=cnsSurname%3a%22olson%22+AND+cnsGivenName%3a%22martin%22+AND+cnsProvinceCode%3a%22TT%22> He actually appears on another "Absentee List" page where it is noted he has been enumerated on the Bridge ???? page. http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/census/1901/Pages/results.aspx?k=cnsSurname%3a%22olsen%22+AND+cnsGivenName%3a%22martin%22+AND+cnsProvinceCode%3a%22TT%22 He is listed as a Deck Hand on both pages and I think he is working on a crew building a bridge. He might live in a worker's camp, I am guessing. And there is likely a boat involved in the bridge construction and this Martin works on the boat. A problem is that Martin B lives with his brother Chris. J Olson/Olsen who was 32, born in Minnesota and arrived in Canada in 1894. I don't think Christopher/Christian belongs in your family? 3. I have bought a subscription to ancestry for trying to find more about this family ,and did find out some more. It was a Peter Olson ,tailor ,born may 1846 in Norway ,in the 1900 census ,Minneapolis ,MN. He was a widower by then. When Peder/Peter came back to Norway in 1880 he is said to have been a tailor too ,so I bet this must be the same as the father of these 4 children. In the census 1895 he is also a widower living with sons Martin and Ole Olson. I have no more information about Martin ,but found out more about th daughter Sery/Sarah. She was married in Hennepin County ,MN 10 Sep 1892 to Ingebrigt L. Graven ,born in Sunndal ,Norway 21 Jun 1865. In the 1900 census they are listed as Edward and Sarah "Grasem" and lived in Danvers Village ,Marysland and Moyers townships ,Swift County ,MN. Edward was a saloon keeper by then. In the 1910 census "Edwart Gravem" had a meat store living as a widower in Riverside ,Lac Qui Parle County ,MN with 3 children. Have not been able to find the family in 1920 ,but then they should be in Great Falls ,Montana area. I did find a confirmation record for the daughter Clara/Claire Graven in Gold Hill Lutheran Church in Butte ,MT 1912. 1 Clara Selma Graven ,born in Minneapolis ,MN 22 Aug 1896 died 31 Aug 1927 Great Falls ,Montana ,and was married in Butte ,Montana 22 Nov 1919 to Lon C. Stevenson ,who worked in the oil business in Montana. They had one son 1-1 Lon C. Stevenson Jr . 2 Peter Leonard Graven ,born 24 Jan 1899. He lived in Great Falls 1917-1918 ,not found him in 1920 ,but he lived in Los Angeles ,CA 1928 and 1930. In the 1930 census he was a lodger and single in Los Angeles. The last one I found on him was an address from 1935-1936 in Minneapolis ,MN. 3 Florence Graven ,born in Minnesota abt 1901 ,still at home in Riverside ,MN 1910 ,but died before 1926. This Ingebrigt/Edward Gravem/Graven died 26 Feb 1926 in Cascade County ,Montana (listed as "Ingebethe L. Graven" according to the Montana death index. But can also find the same man "Edward Gravem" dying the same date in Butte ,Montana ,and buried 28 Feb at Gold Hill Lutheran in Butte. Wonder if his burialservice was held in Gold Hill Lutheran Church in Butte ,but that he was buried at Highland Cemetery in Great Falls. At least the findagrave had him buried at Highland Cemetery. Anyway.....I have tried to find out more about Peter L. Graven ,born 24 Jan 1899 after 1936 ,but to no avail so far. Anyone who can find more on him in 1920 or after 1936? Also am still hoping to find more on Martin Olson born 1877. Maybe an obituary for his brother Bernhard Magnus Olsen in 1914 would help?
