Ann, I had good luck googling the names of the ships I was interested in. These were US ships and most had reunion groups that could answer my questions. They had access to the ship's logs, and I was able to find out the routes taken and dates and ports where they docked. I don't know if that would work for ships from other countries, but it is worth a try.
