    3. Lars, Allstate is/was an insurance company or set of insurance companies, including life, auto, etc. One of their branches would have been Allstate Collection Services. Their job would be to collect money from people who didn't pay their bills on time. So Mr. Mitterling's job in Finance Collection would have been to attempt to collect these past-due bills. Most people try to pay when they get letters saying they have past-due bills, because fines get added to the original bill, and eventually the company takes the customer to court. If the company wins (which they usually do), court costs get added to the original bill as well. Most people aren't fond of finance collectors. But it's a job like any other, and if he did it for 22 years he was probably pretty good at it without making either his bosses or his customers too angry with him. In general, Allstate has a pretty good reputation as an insurance company. I admit I've never heard of Allstate Collection Services, however. I think probably they prefer it that way. Hope this helps, Doris On Sat, Apr 25, 2015 at 3:11 AM, Lars E. 3. Dear Doris and other Listers! Thank you very much for your prompt reply and good explanation of finance collection. I kind of suspected that was what he did, but doing it for so long... My problem has been solved! Thanks again! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. 3. Hi Lars. Doris is right to a point. To be more specific, Allstate other than selling insurance has a finance department where it gives loans for vehicle purchases and that is where the job of a finance collector comes in to collect money before the vehicle is foreclosed on by the company. If people who have their insurance don't pay their premium, Allstate doesn't try to collect it, they just cancel them for non payment of premium. I worked for 30 years with Allstate and retired with a great retirement package from them. Hope all is well with you, Lars, Fondest regards from your cousin John in Wisconsin, John On Sat, Apr 25, 2015 at 5:42 AM, Lars E. 3. John, I'm a bit confused by your explanation, though it adds to my "guess." Does the finance dept collect on the loan, or foreclose on the vehicle? Can you be more specific about the process, please? Thanks, Doris On Sat, Apr 25, 2015 at 8:30 AM, John Kenneth Peterson via < norway@rootsweb.com> wrote: > Hi Lars. > > Doris is right to a point.
