Hi, list, With all they great help you're giving Steve, maybe you can help me with my Fatland family, which I believe is completely unrelated to his. I am still trying to locate them in Norway. In an effort a couple of days ago to help him, I'd mentioned an Ole H. Fatland who emigrated from Norway in 1875 as a 10 yr. old with his family, and gave his parents' names. His father, Hans Anderson Fatland, died in Liverpool on the journey. It is written the whole family emigrated to US but not when, and that Hans died in England and was buired there. This is on page 305 in this bygdebok. < This is almost certainly my family, as the parents' names are correct, and this is the span of years during which their 10 children were born. I have that Hans died in Liverpool in April 1875, and the rest of the family arrived in NY in May 1875. What I don't know is where Kvinnherrad is. Is this a county name, like Vestfold or Vest-Agder? I've never heard of it before. And which port would the family likely have left Norway from? The immigration record just shows they were on the "Italy" from Liverpool to Queensland to NY. It doesn't show what feeder ship they used from Norway to England, or where it began its voyage. Thanks in advance for your help. Doris

Hi Doris - The correct modern spelling is Kvinnherad (older spelling was Kvinnherrad, also spelled Quindherred), and it is located in Hordaland Fylke, Norway. Also Dorthea Marie did not go back to Norway...
