    3. Lars, Cemeteries don't always have exact death dates. One of my grandmothers, for instance, is listed by the cemetery as having died 1 Jan 1935. Actually, she died 9 Jan. Her headstone gives just the years of birth and death. The custom of this cemetery was that if they didn't have the precise date, they gave the first day of the month, or if they didn't have anything but the year, they gave 1 Jan. I'm not sure why they didn't have my grandmother's precise date of death, except that she died in another city and was buried in the town she grew up in. The death certificate had the exact date, and of course the family knew. But over time and distance, families lose track, and you're reduced to hunting down old records.
