    3. Lars, I should note that Hood River, OR was, and is, well known for its fertile soil, making it excellent for truck farming and orchards. It sits in the shadow of Mt. Hood, one of the chain of dormant volcanoes that runs through the Cascade Range from Canada down to N. Calif. (actually, none of them are truly dormant, as we learned in 1980 when Mt. St. Helens, 100 miles or so due North of Mt. Hood, had a dramatic explosion; it's still bubbling!). 3. My uncle was a truck farmer. He had a nice fruit tree orchard and a small hobby farm. He had permits to be able to set up his truck and a produce stand by the side of a road in order to sell his fruits and vegetables to the public.
