Thank you, Leonard! :-) I saw several entries with Forthun Indgang listed as the place of baptism..., so if Indgang means the same in Dano-Norsk, then I guess I have to wonder if the baptismal font is at the front entrance of the church. The Wikipedia page says nothing about it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fortun_Church Or else there is another definition of which we are unaware. Interesting! :-) Beste, Bev ----- Original Message ----- From: Leonard Strom <leonardstrom@shaw.ca> To: Bev Anderson <bevgand@yahoo.com>; norway@rootsweb.com Cc: Sent: Thursday, March 26, 2015 5:36 AM Subject: Re: [NOR] Lars Olsen, birth/baptism record, Forthun kirke, Luster, S&F, Norway Bev . The Danish translation for Indgang is entrance. Regards Leonard >I need a definition for the word "Indgang."

I believe the baptismal font was placed at the front entrance in the Swedish tradition because the mother was not allowed at the altar for a specific period of time because she was not clean after birth. I don't know if the Norwegian church followed the same practice. Inngang may mean entrance, but in this context it means introduction where the minister led the "inngangskone" from the entrance into the church, after her birth.
