Thank you, Bev! Fun to see what you sent. Fjaerestad is a farm in Balestrand and has been for some centuries. My g.grandmother, born in Balestrand to Peder Kristenson Fjaerestad (of Balestrand), married my g.grandfather Bendik J. Fjaerestad born in Vik i Sogn. Hei and thank you Clark! You have found in 1873 the older brother of Jens, they did leave Norway in 1873 and had some children in Norway who also came with them. The census in 1910 shows Chris (Kristen) Fjerestad farming near Jens. If it is any help, the daughter Anna (Anne, Annie) seems to not be adopted but called a 'niece' in 1910 and is born in MN but living her entire life in SD. That may confuse things so no worries about Annie.
