2. Good morning, Clark and all who have offered additions to Jens Fjerestad with my request to help find his death record. Thank you all for your help! Or if not, I could try to get to a library and see if it opens there. I'm on the road right now, my Mom just started Hospice care and I'm with her. Only guessing here but if there is a "Chris or Christian" Stevenson referring to his mother, likely that is my G.Grandfather Bendik's wife Sitona Pedersdatter Fjaerestad's step-mother. Brita Bendiksdatter Fjaerestad was also Bendik's paternal uncle. Chris Stevenson was an infant when his father died either at the MN / Iowa border or very close in a snow storm, ,within a y ear of emigrating out of Norway with his wife Brita (Bertha at times). Brita married the widower, Peder Kristianson Fjerestad (spellings vary), my g.g.grandfather, and father to Sitona, my g.grandmother who married Bendik. Cork sorter? Sort what kind of cork? For bottle stoppers or wine bottles? For fish net floats? For... what other purposes? Or have I not gotten the meaning correct? My Haugen's translates kork as cork, so presumably we're talking about the same material. Thanks, again. 1. [NOR] Many links & photos of area Jens C. Fjerestad b. 1850 Balestrand, Norway
2. Thank you, Bev! Fun to see what you sent. Fjaerestad is a farm in Balestrand and has been for some centuries. My g.grandmother, born in Balestrand to Peder Kristenson Fjaerestad (of Balestrand), married my g.grandfather Bendik J. Fjaerestad born in Vik i Sogn. So that's a good fit for what you mention about the Vik farm. I've been to both places. Beautiful! If any one has a clue to when and where Jens died, and if he ever remarried, I would appreciate any tips. The obit of his 'daughter' or 'niece' as she probably was, indicates in 1918 Jens and daughter were headed to winter in San Diego and she died before they got there. I see her gravestone at FindaGrave. Not sure if he stayed in CA or went back to SD but I do not find him again after that. I do not have paid subscriptions (obits, ancestry.com, etc) and hoping maybe if someone has those we can get some puzzles solved for Jens. Thank you! 1. [NOR] Fjaerestad Kristen K and wife Gjori 1873 to America
2. Hei and thank you Clark! You have found in 1873 the older brother of Jens, they did leave Norway in 1873 and had some children in Norway who also came with them. The census in 1910 shows Chris (Kristen) Fjerestad farming near Jens. If it is any help, the daughter Anna (Anne, Annie) seems to not be adopted but called a 'niece' in 1910 and is born in MN but living her entire life in SD. That may confuse things so no worries about Annie.
