    1. [NOR] Obituary assistance for a 100 year old lady in Kenyon, MN 1916, please?
    2. Lars E. Oyane
    3. Dear Listers! The great John Dalby database shows that: Gjḛrtrud Qualle, born Aug. 27, 1815, died in Steele Co., MN Feb. 10, 1916, and her obituary was supposedly published in the Kenyon newspaper on Feb. 12, 1916. I asked John about a copy, but he says the information came from Jay Steinberg who died in 2007, and he dies not have it... So now I hope that someone can please help me find this obituary? Thanks a million in advance for your great assistance in this matter! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane

    3. Dear Marian, Annette and other Listers! Thank you very much for your comments on my inquiry regarding the social security records! I have spent several days trying to figure how I can possibly obtain copies of these records, but everywhere I call I get the same automatic answer. They want your social security number and personal information about you etc. etc. Then finally today I got the following information in this regard from a «live» person: «in order to answer the question of how to get a copy of the SS application it must be requested from the FREEDOM OF INFORMATION and filed with the government. This is supposed to be able to be found on line? SS is not set up to help with genealogical questions.» I must admit this answer didn’t give me much help at all. Maybe someone else can understand what is meant? I would so much like to obtain these two records for Ole Erickson! Thanks again for any suggestions! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. 3. Thanks!. Have been able to verify that the dates is correct on Johannes and Marits deaths. When it comes to when or exactly where Torger died ,I have not found anything yet only Hillsboro sometime 1890s. A work in progress hopefully ,at least I try the best I can. Getting some help from Clark on this one!. Sent him the picture I have from Skrivseth photographer in Hillsboro since he has relatives in the area that might be able to find out more. -----Opprinnelig melding----- Fra: Jerry Lloyd [mailto:jlloyd@midco.net] Sendt: 27. juli 2018 02:58 Til: norway@rootsweb.com Emne: [NOR] Re: Photographer in Hillsboro, ND.... Well ,I have no idea when or where he died allthough I know it was in the 1890s ,and probably Hillsboro ,and probably buried at the Hillsboro Cemetery somewhere since several of Torger`s family was there also. I had a genealogist trying to locate Torger`s exact death date ,but he didn`t succeed. Would be interesting if it was a will. It might be written in some newspaper about his death ,but since I am in Norway ,I don`t have the opportunity to go to any archive and look through any newspapers from the Hillboro area. Since I don`t know when he died either ,I guess it would be a time consuming task to do. But ,I would think that it could be a possibility to find something about his estate in newspapers. An obituary would of course be more than great ,but it is hard to find anything as long as I don`t know his deathdate or year..... -----Opprinnelig melding----- Fra: Annette Bowen [mailto:annette.bowen@gmail.com] Sendt: 27. juli 2018 01:34 Til: norway@rootsweb.com Emne: [NOR] Re: Photographer in Hillsboro, ND.... Have you checked for a will or probate for Torger? I was surprised that both of my immigrant ancestors who died in the early 1900s had wills. Tax records are another possibility for an approximate date of death. Sometimes his estate will be listed on the roll after his death. Are there newspapers available that might have mentioned his death? Dear Listers, On ancestry.com I find the following marriage record from Omaha, NE: Chris Christensen, 25, born Denmark - parents Nels Christensen and Lizzie Hanson Isabell Thompson, 22, born South Dakota - parents John Thompson and Annie Anderson married by the Douglas County Judge in Omaha, NE on June 4, 1903 This couple is nowhere to be seen in the 1910 census (unless I have gone blind…!) And I am unable to find any Isabell (or Bell or Ingeborg or similar) Thompson born in South Dakota in the early 1880’s to parents with these names. HOWEVER, I have one Ingeborg Thompson born in Lyons township, Minnehaha Co., SD on Nov. 2, 1882 (re. confirmation record from Nidaros Lutheran church 1896) to parents Knute Thompson (Skjel) and Ellen Anderson. The mother was hospitalized at Yankton, SD shortly thereafter, and this Ingeborg is presumably the same as Bell Thompson, born SD Nov. 1882 to Norwegian parents living as a servant in Sioux City, IA in 1900. In 1900 we also find a sister of hers, Caroline «Lena» Thompson, born in SD July of 1878 to Norwegian parents as a single hotel chamber maid in Omaha, NE. She was actually born in Goodhue Co., MN July 22, 1878, but moved with her parents to Minnehaha Co., SD in the early spring of 1879 and grew up there! According to relatives in South Dakota, Ingeborg was indeed married and lived in Omaha, NE, but she died young leaving one son named Clarence Benson. None of his South Dakota relatives know what ever became of him! Knute Thompson (Skjel) died in Minnehaha Co., SD in 1928, and when his estate was settled in April of 1930, we find among his heirs: * daughter Lena Thompson (Skjel) of Omaha, NE * grandson Clarence Benson of Omaha, NE We do know that Caroline «Lena» Thompson later moved to Chicago, IL where I find her as a single servant in the 1940 census and where she supposedly was still living as late as in 1966… Her death date is unknown! But how about Clarence? Is there indeed a connection between the Isabell Thompson who married that Dane in Omaha, NE in 1903, and «our» Ingeborg? Thanks a million for any suggestions as far as Ingeborg (and Caroline «Lena») Thompson and Clarence Benson and their destinies are concerned! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. 3. I am translating the following passage from the Hjelmeland bygdebok (Vol 2, p. 342) regarding the loss of the Hjelmeland church books before 1760. The discussion is under the entry for Jen Kristofferson Munthe, who is the pastor who is blamed for the loss of the records. "Ettermælet hans er ikkje det beste. Ein av etterkomarane hans i kallet, Johan Gottlieb Thaulow, meinte at han hadde vanskjøtta embetet. Det finst i dag ikkje kyrkjebøker før 1760 for Hjelmeland. Truleg har dei eldre bøkene, i lag med andre dokument som høyrde kallet til, kome bort i hans tid. Innførslene i bøkene er og til tider summariske og ufullstendige frå hans tid." Is "i lag med andre dokument som høyrde kallet til" simply "together with other church documents"? And is "his tenure" a good translation of "hans tid"? Thank you. Marian

    2. Good morning Erik, If you have any interest in the Sorum family and offspring around Rochester (and Kasson) MN, I have some information. And, as well, I think it was the Sorum, possibly who cut off 2 acres for the S. Zumbro Lutheran Church in the 1860's and now, this year it is the 150 year anniversary of S. Zumbro, their church 15 minutes SW of Rochester. Linda in Alaska On Thu, 26 Jul 2018 09:00:24 +0200, Erik Hov wrote: Hello. Oyane Sent: Wednesday, July 25, 2018 4:43 PM To: norway@rootsweb.com Subject: [NOR] Strange family in Omaha, NE - help, please?
