Hi all, I am still reading the Norway List, but busy with career. Do any of you know if I can access the Finnemanntallet 1686 online? It is a census of people of Finnish descent living in Norway then. I found one link, http://www.arkivportalen.no/side/arkiv/detaljer?arkivId=no-a1450-01000001614 213 that says it has the census in its contents, but I cannot access it. Some DNA information and an email from a man in Finland suggested that I may have an ancestor from this cultural group, called the Forest Finns, who immigrated to Norway or Sweden in the 1600s. If so, it would be my first ancestor who is not Norwegian or Swedish! You can read about this cultural group here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forest_Finns Apparently, the largest number of Forest Finns in Norway were in Hedmark. Norway Heritage Ship's Lists; the ones with the white square page logo in the Details column have passenger lists. Date of embarkation and arrival at port of destination are listed. http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_year.asp?ye=1861 I recognize the Fjaerestad (Fjæerstad, Fjerstad, Fierstad, etc.) name from Vik Prestegjeld, Sogn og Fjordane, port of embarkation would have been Bergen (alt spellings of Vik: Viik, Vig, Viig, Wik, Wiik, Wig, etc.). I'm not sure where the Fjerstad farm name may have been elsewhere in Norway, but I know there are a few Fjerstad farms in Vik Prestegjeld, Sogn og Fjordane, some emigrants who used that farm name as their American surname went to Iowa and at least one family of Fjerstads from Vik Prestegjeld, Sogn og Fjordane found their way to northwestern Minnesota where they had a very large family (one married my maternal grandmother's sister, so the name is found in my database - but I couldn't find your names in my database; there are several Fjerstad farms in Vik). There is a live webcam overlooking the town and valley in Vik (keep in mind the time difference). There are photos of the farms, meaning of farm names. I just got a little obituary for Ragnhild Ween ,and it adds another name to her family. It says that she was survived by Miss Helen Lovseth ,and John L. Lovseth and Mrs Angus Larson. Ragnhild`s death certificate shows that she was born 20 Sep 1886 ,and the daughter of Ludwig Larson and Hilda Christenson. Her full name was Ragnhild Marie Larsen. After some looking I did find that she was born 20 Sep 1886 in Motzfeltdtgate in Oslo to Ludvig Albert Larsen and wife Hilda Amalie Christiansen ,and christened in Grønland church in Oslo 24 Oct 1886. http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1450-kb20060921040376.jpg Ludvig and Hilda had as far I can see 5 children ,Alma Marie Larsen ,born 27 Sep 1882 ,Albert Oscar Vilhelm Larsen ,born 25 Dec 1883 ,Ragnhild Marie Larsen ,Alma Kristiane Larsen ,born 8 Jan 1890 ,and Lilly Harriet Larsen ,born 20 Aug 1895 ,all born in Grønland parish ,Oslo. Don`t know much about these though ,but I think the older Alma died before the younger was born. Don`t know more about Alma Kristiane ,but Lilly Harriet was the mother of above mentioned Helen and John Lovseth. My question would be......who was this Mrs Angus Larson who also survived Ragnhild Ween??? Thanks! Birth registration images are online for Goodhue County at FamilySearch Not indexed but organized by year then town/township I found Johnetta's registration MN County Birth Records, 1863-1983 > Goodhue > Births 1870-1881, vol 1 Wanamingo page 2 at Image 308 of 537 > Johnetta is #45 Regrettably there is no middle name, and for that matter the clerk entered something more like Gunhetta than Johnetta. But the March 15th date is correct and image 309 has the parents RH and Dorthia Chrislock. Cliff Lien Alberta, Canada cjl@interbaun.com -----Original Message----- From: Lars E. Dear Jerrald and other Listers! Thank you very much, Jerrald, for sending me the find-a-grave reference for Johnetta M. Chrislock Halvorson. I don't recall seeing that one before; however, the same question remains: What was her middle name? I guess the only way to find out would be to access the church records... Thanks again for your great assistance! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane

I don’t know if anyone else saw this, but it I thought it was pretty funny. It doesn’t seem to be anyone one you’re looking for, but it sounds like one of “Today’s Jokes”. When I did a search for Loveseth in the Library of Congress site, this came up; ABUSED IN NORWEIGIAN Why Eskald Loveseth Wants to Secure $6,000. Eskald E. Loveseth has a grievance against Ole P. Hytemyren which he believes is reasonably worth the sum of $6,000, and he wants to recover that amount through the court. The reason for all this is that Eskald and Ole (the printing press will not bear a repetition of the full names) had a quarrel during the progress of which it is alleged Ole said to Eskald, “Du er eu tyv ant,” which translated means. “You are a thieving rascal.” Eskald took that to mean Ole intended to call him a thief and a rascal, and these derogatory statements having been made, according to the complaint, in the presence of several persons, Eskald thinks that he was damaged $3,000 worth thereby. But that was not all. Several months later, Ole, Eskald says, addressed this term to him, couched in the Norwegian language: “Du er en tyv,” meaning “you are a thief.” Ole said that this remark was also made in the presence of several persons who understood the Norwegian language, and by this repetition of an alleged slanderous statement, Eskald says he was damaged $3,000 more.
