Hi All, A child is sick with a minor illness. He wants his mother to read to him from a favorite book. He asks her to go downstairs, get the book, bring it up, and read to him. She comes back with the wrong book and starts reading. The child says, "Why did you bring a book I didn't want to be read from out of up for?". The emigration records for Ole and Ingeborg are on the Emigranter fra Trondheim site for 15 August 1900 page 195. Thy are ages 53 and 57 with no children leaving with them. I have been unable to find any births of children to this couple. I am baffled why I have nothing for them from the marriage to their departure. If anyone has ideas , please help. Yes, this is all the right family and it is Berges grandmother Kari Rolandsdatter that I can't find anything about. I went to the archives in Bergen and the only prospect I could find was Roland Olson and Ragnild Botolfsdatter and this might be way off. Tricky one I think... Reina, I think the 4th child of the Roland Olsen you found is Sigri not Kari. See here at Urnæss in Hafsloe in the 1801 census. Looks like all the children and Margrethe Olsd are here with maybe a wrong age transcription for Elisabet? So maybe the wrong Roland? Marilyn, Where did you come up with the 1778 birth year for Kari Rolandsdatter? I have not found a good candidate in the 1801 census. John, Old-style English teachers used to tell us we could not end a sentence in a preposition. That's not something that's so rigidly adhered to these days, especially in informal communication like an email. If the sentence flows and makes sense, go for it! The rule originally came from Latin, where the preposition and the word it was attached to were physically connected as part of the same word. In other words, it was impossible to "disconnect" them. In English, prepositions and the words they connect to are two separate words, so the rule makes a lot less sense. So as a former English teacher, I'd say, don't worry about the rule!
